What's your top speed?

  • I'll make the most of it, thanks. I've heard how hard it is to coax the legs round at your age.

God willing, you'll find out for yourself eventually...

  • To be fair, I am proud of my top speed. But I'm very aware of the fact that I could go faster if I wasn't scared. I'm far happier that I can climb Ditchling in the same gear.

    1. something on a long sweeping down hill....loved it!! Ave'd 24.something on the Ironman...loved that too.........

Well, swung my balls a little.......I know lots are faster, but thats my top enders!!

    Big love!!xx

  • God willing, you'll find out for yourself eventually...

If I do make it, there'll be some kind of electronic bibshorts on the market that recapture youthful cadences.

  • New record eh? I'd love to visit Battle Mountain.

As somebody who's been out that way, I can say you probably don't.

Of course, cheap beer, gambling and hookers ain't that far away.

  • I can only get up to 88mph before I go back in time and ruin ANOTHER set of tyres.

My mate, Emmet's, working on some super-dillos for my next attempt at a pb

  • 38mph fixed (48:18 (terrifying)) and 43mph geared (weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!).

  • Over 30 mph on fixed and my legs start to disintegrate, something to do
    with my plastic knee joints..

  • I got 48 downhill on road on an mtb 10 years ago at the end of a 4 week ride from Mexico City with the pacific ocean and a large taquila waiting for me.....aah happy days

  • Reached 73mph on a long straight bit with a tailwind in the Beacons once. Scary stuff

    Eek

Scary indeed. I hit 46 once downhill on a geared bike. That made me hit the brakes a few times; I'm too much of a weenie to want to go faster on a bike.

  • Was spinning away madly on drops late one night on Chelsea Embankment. A motorbike rider pulled up alongside me - shouted '35!' and gave me the thumbs up. I was chuffed. Just over 45mph downhill on the way out of Hastings, scary indeed, tried the brakes and they did nothing at that speed.

  • 53.7kph on fixed 49/14 @ hove seafront... just converted that.. shit that aint impressive at all. :( ow wait its on a flat= 1up :)]

  • Try 35mph average for 80 laps at Newport Veledrome on a 90!

  • So far 34mph on a straight whilst going through that tunnel on Upper Thames St, just before Blackfriars... Geared MTB, 44/11. Would of gotten a bit more speed if the tunnel was longer, think I'll try a nice long run up way before it next time.

Going under that knowing you're going faster than vehicles is quite a bloody nice feeling.

  • Nudged 37.8 mph in the first floor of a pub courtesy of Rollapaluza. SS - not sure, probably only about 25-27 mph on the flat. Geared, top speed currently 52 mph (courtesy of the Cambrian Mountains).

On a regular run in Kent there are some great sections, just a little downhill gradient, where one can barrel along (geared) quite happily around 40 mph+ mark.

  • Just hit 45 mph on rollers with 44/17 I have gone faster with bigger gears, of course. This was weird though, the feeling of no resistance, even less than rlplza. Going over 50 makes the house do funny things and makes the baby next door cry.

Sorry but that is quite slow on the rollers. A time of about 30seconds. Should be about 45 to 50.

I hit exactly the same cadence (223rpm) the other day on the turbo - although I can't say the same about resistance (~900W).

I feel like max cadence is on the decline, as my son gradually leeches my powers on his path to alpha-maledom.

  • well yeah, getting old means a huge drop in cadence, doesn't mean we should stop training it though. I need to experiment with a selection of gears because I usually spin better with something to work against, I also put out more wattage with more resistance according to the Nottbike.

  • I've got a Whatbike. And a Wattthefuckbike.

  • I've got a nobike(inLondon) at the moment, so my maximum speed will be walking tonight.

  • WTFbikes are the new black.

I'm getting a FTWbike next year too
