  • wow funky bikes
don't these appear in the bike porn thread quite regularly

  • What size are they and roughly how much are you looking for?

  • horrific lack of info...

If you want to sell them, put a bit more effort in. More photos, sizes, age, condition, built up pics.

I imagine you're looking for a good amount of wedge, so at least put in a similar amount of effort.

  • I'll post everything later this evening.

  • please don't be my size

  • also interested in size and rear spacing

  • Dibs on the one with the missing seat post clamp.
    For reduced price of course!

"... As for the price I'm opened to offers..."

Please read the rules for clasifieds.
I'm willing to pay a fair price, but this isn't Ebay.

So, my first offer is EUR 100.-
Willing to trade against a Giant Carbon fibre road frame set?

Also very interested how payment will be arranged.
I think not many people are willing to transfer a serious amount of money to Belarus and having no guarantee that the goods will ever arrive and are in decent quality (apart from what is clearly visible on the pics).

No offence, the interest is serious, but lets be realistic.

  • As a trustworthy third party I'll hold the money is escrow* for you.

    *Where escrow=my wallet

  • I quite want one of the 56cm frames.... only willing to buy if he lists on eBay first (paypal protection and all that!!).

I asked for a price over PM this morning and haven't heard anything yet.

    How to trust a penguin...

  • I have e-mailed the seller and he seems quite friendly.

He seems to want to want a bidding war... how do you put a value on these? I say ebay

I get the impression he's just doing "market research" at the moment...

  • As they need a complete respray (perhaps more), i wouldn't wany to pay more that £175-£200 for them. Once you have done a complete respray (a good one at least) with new decals and paid for shipping, that makes them about £350-£400 a frame.

  • I'm really interested.
    have email'ed you.
    (i hope)

  • So I guess you've seen the pictures already. If not I've uploaded them here http://www.flickr.com/photos/45368891@N05/sets/ with some sizing data. All frames were made in the USSR in 1987 by the Central Design & Technical Agency, Velo Building for some history info check http://www.bikecult.com/works/archive/03bicycles/takhionV.html. Made of Columbus tubes for World Champinships and Olympic games. Only around 400 of these frames were built. Check the flickr for sizing. Front dropouts 100mm rear 120mm seat tube is 27.2mm. They are rusty but the rust is very superficial. No cracks or dents.

200 pounds seem to be pretty cheap... I'm still opened for offers.

    • What's the headset used- and is a replacement commonly available
    • What threading is the bottom bracket

    ??

  • please don't be my size

Don't look at the dimensions of the super sport.

Headset used is a specially designed TAKHION headset. I'm pretty sure the bottom bracket threading is Italian.

First bit of information above slashes the price dramatically. No point in having a rare frame if you can't get a pretty critical spare part for it!

  • Agreed- I was moving from "hmm, interesting" to "very tempted", but if the entire thing is buggered by not being able to get something as simple as a headset then I'm now at "meh".

Both of the above mean i'm pretty much out as well.

  • OH MY GOD!
I might go to the bank tomorrow and get an overdraft. These are my favourite frame designs ever.

The headset bearing is the smaller problem here. The lower bearing is just the bottom half of a normal headset, and manufacturing a replacement upper bearing is within the scope of any decent machinist. The big problem is that nobody in their right mind is going to send money to Belarus - it has a reputation slightly below Nigeria on that front.

While an original Takhion has heritage value, anybody wanting a lo-pro with crown-mounted bars to actually ride would be better off talking to a builder like Dave Yates or Trevor Jarvis, the kind of folk likely to be interested in this kind of project.
