  • Just added the Niner Air9 carbon, as it is now availible for pre order from Bike29.com. Its one impressive frameset. It combines great Niner geo, with carbon and a load of other features...
    1.5" tapered head tube technology
Internal cable routing with a slick magnesium head badge that has built in cable stops
    Titanium anti chain suck plates
Oversize CYA bottom bracket system - this frame can be run as a single speed, or with ANY current bb on the market; bb30 press fit bb30, bb90, you name it, it all works!

  • They're beautiful frames. I would dearly love to own one but living in London makes it somewhat superfluous and it would be a travesty to build one and let it get dusty in the corner.

I need to move back to the countryside.

  • WTF is going on with the seat tube? Looks weel dodgy.

  • WTF is going on with the seat tube? Looks weel dodgy.

I think the black part of the finish is plain uni directional carbon. The bit of the seat tube that looks snapped is just were the wrap direction changes and catches the light differently.

I was looking at one on Bike29.com andsaw the price was $500. I nearly ripped my trousers, in the hurry to get my credit card out, before noticing that this was just the deposit.

  • The forks are 320GBP - http://www.stif.co.uk/gear/select_options.asp?productid=7949&store=mtb

No idea on the frame as it appears the price has not yet been set.

  • I have an On One Scandal slot dropout. £215 for the frame. It's aluminium though...but it does make for a very light bike.

  • i have a on-one Ti slot drop out 29er frames...

I would have bought one of these in one of their frame sales. They did'nt have that mad pink colour in stock though.

Nice build. Like the wheels alot.

  • Nice build. Like the wheels alot.

i'm not sure about the wheels - I don't like how loud the freewheel is on the Hope 2 hubs (sad I know) I have a spare couple of Phil KO hubs and WI free wheels which i'm going to change to....

how much do you think the wheels are worth second hand?

Ill have one for x-mas please forum members, that alright?
look at the rear stays on that-- bitchin climber and a beautiful downhill carver no doubt, .......... put some wide risers on it be like flying........love. it.

  • just built up an inbred slot dropout, only went with slx groupset for now as may need to do some trailer pulling with it. Fun entry level frame tho and would be lovely to drop all the weight off and ride it ss in the future.

Will recheck thread from proper computer sometime to check out others listed.

I've gone with Hope pro II's laced to some velocity blunts. I went all weight weenie with revolution spokes non-brake side and supercomps brake side. They weigh very little considering how wide the blunts are, which help make 2,55 weirwolfs mount huge.

Recieved my crank arms today so only BB and pedals to go :)

  • Can't wait to see it eventually built up.
    Damn I need a 29er.

looking forward to seeing this, should be great fun

It was an exercise in bad taste when half finished. I figured as I followed through with more white and more gunsmoke two things could happen.

    A) a clear colour theme would emerge making the bike look more tasteful.
    B) it would become more and more tastless.

It kinda looked to be edging toward (B), untill I recieved the grey/white ceramic coated crank arms, which push it fully into (B) :)
It looks totally screwed but for some reason I love it (like a disfigured puppy). The Hope mini pro X2's I'm picking up over Xmas should finish it off nicely. Massively excited.

I had hoped to enter the 2010 Birkebeiner with it. But that event is now fully booked, so 2011 maybe.

Its a hard course for a singlespeed, but definitely doable. I'm more concerned about tackling some of the decents fully rigid.

  • It's my opinion that all mountain bikes should be fully rigid (For my purposes). I just don't get on with suspension and there's something about tackling tecnical offroad rigid that I find really rewarding.

It's also probably why I like SS offroad. Much though I'd love a 29er whilst I'm living in London there really isn't that much point to me getting one. I've currently got a steamroller set up with CX tyres which makes even riding the tamest of dirt paths into something enjoyable, this will do for now.

Once I've got the new polo rig back up and running I'm probably going to turn my 26 mountain bike back into the bike it deserves to be.

Read an interesting (funny) piece by a fully rigid fanatic regarding his hatred for the constant change in front end geometry when riding a sus bike.

Not sure I bought into his argument, but the money and weight saved convinced me. I've been riding the local trails on my CX bike, and find long decents to be a bit jarring. It will be interesting to see what the increase in volume and contact area offered by fat 29er tyres does to improve this.

  • i love that niner.
    plus their forks are epic.

  • The 29" wheels are for bouyancy more than grip :)

  • Apologies if already posted:

    Woodbike - nice! $850

    ALso
    Soma bside £385

  • mmm a post I just wrote has to be moderated!

I think its because I had the word 'wood'???

Anyway, look at woodbikes.com, they have a singlespeed mtb frame, $850.

    Interesting!

  • Forgot to add Soma bside £385, steel, I like the classic paintwork.

    Oops.
Yeah, 650c wheels, intresting looking bike.

  • I know this is an old thread, but the spam filter thing stops me starting a new one currently. So if anyone can help, I’m trying hard to find a new frame that fits the points below; it is proving difficult.

    1. Frame only, and is available to purchase in the UK today. Lots of old frames and customs and stuff on this existing thread, but I can't actually find any to buy. Also, lots of OFP complete bikes, but I only need a frame.
    2. Single speed/fixed gear (EBB or sliding drop outs)
    3. 29er wheels
    4. under or close to £500
    5. Aluminum, or at least something light (sub 2000g?)

So far the only frame out there that does this is
Kona big unit @ £500 from rutland cycles.

Close, but in steel and are approx 2500g are
On one inbred 29'er @ £150 direct from on one (steel)
Surly Karate Monkey 29er Hardtail Frameset @ £350 on wiggle

Anything else? And I don’t really want to have to use a bolt on chain tensioner or external EBB gadget if I can help it.

    Thanks
