Yep defiantly armchair expert. A different beast but on my MTB I have Vee brake on the front and canti on the rear (because that was what I could get hold of) and I don't find one any better / worse for clogging in th mud.

Condor used to spec their cross bikes with STI/Ergo levers and V brakes so there must be a workaround of some kind.
Yep the travel agent work around I was on about, although reviews are varied, hence why I supposed the lack of popularity.
