IMHO cycloX bikes can make the perfect workhorse. Mine pengy as feck, but bloody useful. I would echo the sentiment that some are good for light touring too. Mines a blast o the trails but beat the poopoo out of me on a heavily loaded metric ton.

I've corresponded with a few folk on mtbr.com, with those SpotBrand blacks, some race them. Sound like great bikes.
