  • sounds like a great idea
good idea to do it independently or as indie as you can....
did chile to argentina for a charity earlier this year and was most pissed off to find that much more than the amount suggested in the early literature ended up going on cost....... more went on cost than to the charity which I think is plain wrong.....mainly because as they expand this programme they have started outsourcing the job to a tour company who rip them off, basically, and they left it too late to book the flights, which was clever......
still - some people managed to raise an insane amount of ££ so it balances out I guess, but just saying, very many of these organised charity rides have very clever wording and not as much money as you would hope goes to the charity, and there are usually a great deal of hidden costs.

with regards to press attention etc....depends what charities you are doing it for, and what spin you can put on it. get in touch with the charity press office, also any personal story that relates could work in local media, quirky helps too.......blog - you need to generate lots of traffic to attract advertisers but it's not impossible.
in terms of raising money I wrote as many letters as possible, and got some cash from some unexpected people!

Events is a good one too - if you can get friends to pull favours for you, find a venue space for free and promise a crowd, get raffle prizes donated....charge a fair sum on the door, great way to make some money fast.

ps i realise this reads badly but i'm too tired to correct my english at the mo. good luck with it x
