Just leveled up to 50 in MW2, too. Discovered a whole new set-up; Marathon, Lightweight and Ninja Pro with a silenced UMP45 and a handgun with Tactical Knife, oh and a smoke grenade.
Pure evil. You run super fast, never tire, in complete silence. I'll call it my Hunter set-up, you just peg it about, knifing snipers and campers.

Dude that set up sounds sweet.
I've been really into the sniper/themal/silencer, silenced auto pistol can't remember what perks but it works really well for me, you can lay in the grass and choppers won't shoot at you.

Fallout 3 acolyte here. I can't emphasise enough how good that game is. Properly got sucked in, like Neverending Story. The world is SO rich, and so uncompromisingly grim. After a few hours in the Wasteland I actually felt jaded, but a big new event, like discovering another Vault, or meeting a friendly face, inspired genuine joy, the likes of which I'd not experienced since Ocarina of Time 10 years ago. I'd spend an hour just tabbing across the terrain, sniping slavers and looting buildings, stocking up safehouses for emergencies.
Brotherhod of Steel is an essential bolt-on, as it actually extends the life of the main game. The others are just fluff (but fun anyway).
Fallout 3 imo is the best single player game I have ever played, it is so vast. I was sucked in right up untill I compelted the single player. since they to be honest I haven't really played it that much.

silenced p90, assassin's weapon of choice. (or a scoped FAL for larger maps)
stinger, token support weapon option for taking out UAVs etc
marathon pro, sprinty
cold blooded pro, quietly
ninja pro, stabby
claymore, extra kill from across the map for no extra hassle? yes please!
flashbangs, humorousUAV, essential
predator, doesn't leave you exposed on the ground for too long like the AC130/chopper gunners and hugely funny
attack chopper, get some kills without the recursion of playing on a laptop in a game you are playing on a laptop. My girlfriend can be quoted as saying "you've gone to piddle over that game recently"
And she is entirely correct. Can anyone recommend something for me?
I like the look of:
Bioshock
Halo 3 (Loved 1 and 2)
Something 'shootey'Bioshock is excellent.
Halo 3 is more of the same with nicer graphics so if you like the first 2 then go for it, but i reckon it (and ODST) reflect a bit of the nadir the gaming industry is in (no gameplay, no story, no characters, no fun).
The antidote to the Halo series poison is definitely Half-life 2 and its episodes. All the shootey you need and orders of magnitude more story, character and atmosphere.
Left 4 dead 1 or 2 also have buckets of shootey but require online play to get the most out of them.I'm looking forward to settling down over the holidays with assassin's creed 2 and am finally working through the first in prepartation.
I love fallout 3 but was pretty disappointed when i completed it really quickly. Haven't played it since last christmas so as to allow for a replay with suitable exploration this time round. Rarely do games produce visceral reactions in me but creeping about in the the failed vaults full of lunatics was acutely claustrophobic

This sense of immersion is the precise reason why I wouldn't touch games like Fallout 3 with a very long bargepole. I want to be immersed in the world around me.
My favourite computer games these days are short DOS games like Railroad Tycoon, The Sentinel, or my all-time favourite, Snipes. Games that look really blocky like computer games should, with no sense of immersion. Or, better still, I like playing boardgames with friends around a table.
I know it sounds like mere nostalgia, but it's a conscious decision irrespective of nostalgia. I don't think that creating immersion is a very desirable or admirable quality in a game. I think it masks the absence of a key high-quality idea for a game--all those complex FPS or role-playing games like Oblivion are just very large databases with a GUI, and that's not enough for me.

Ha. 'Virtual places'? I know you know this, but I think that's a contradiction in terms. It's a bit like people calling web-sites 'places'.

The reason some people want that emmersion is to escape from the world around them,Exactly. I apply Tolkien's distinction between different kinds of escapism, though--on the one hand, the flight of the deserter, and on the other hand, the escape of the prisoner. I think the former (never mind the military metaphor) is problematic, whereas the latter can lead to better things.
also, rollercoaster tycoon is on my list of currently played, and so is ski free.
I was talking about Railroad Tycoon, and I don't actually get the reference here?

I bought an xbox 360 elite on a whim a few weeks ago, and have hardly touched it! But I did start to play Fallout 3, but I fear it is just too immense a storyline for my brain to cope with.
Can anyone recommend something for me?

Something 'shootey':/
Bioshock, one plus to the max, Crispin recommended it, already played it several time and it's already now my favourite games (just after Half Life 2).
Halo 3 - fun, but just another shoot-em-up with a crap plot, bit dull at time even thought there's a handful of action.
shootey - the entire Half Life 2 series, highly recommended, make sure you get The Orange Pack, as that included the fantastic Portal.

The Orange Box is one of the most amazing things you can get, brilliant value for money.
Portal is incredible, genius, great, awesome... whatever you want to call it...
HL2 is one of the best FPS games ever made...

what do you gain and what do you lose when you prestige?
-
• #347
You lose everything you unlocked, starting right back at having to use the shitty classes they give you until you get to level 4 or whatever it is. You keep all titles and emblems and you get a whole bunch of new challenges which let you unlock new titles and emblems, you also get a new little rank badge which doesn't change when you level up.
I'd say it's worth it if you want longetivity out of the game, but if you just play it for a laugh then don't bother, cos it's more fun with good guns.

Is Orange Box an expansion for Halo 3, or something stand alone, by its self?
-

The Orange Box is a Half Life 2 package.
