  • Can't believe there's 363 posts and no one mentions Amores Perros, one of my favorite films.

Inland Empire isn't mentioned either, I love the structure of space in the film, it closely resembles my dreams and nightmares.

  • anyone seen 'hurt locker' ? well tense !

  • STE5, I've seen Amores Perros, and felt that it was very extremely poor in comparison to Tarantino's early work, or that of Robert Rodriguez.
But for Mexican cinema at its most daring, Battle In Heaven is a must-see.

EDIT: I had meant poor in comparison to/with, and edited to reflect that.

  • The Holy Mountain is awesome, stoned or sober. I came on this thread to recommend it and then saw the posts at the top of this page...

(Did anyone else notice that MGMT nicked a scene for one of their music videos?)

Looking forward to seeing more Jodorowsky.

Been a long while since I watched it, but this struck me as a bit odd - I don't remember it having anything in common with Tarantino, or Robert Rodriguez. Neither of them are Mexican directors, and neither of them make dramas...? You might as well compare it unfavourably to The Thing, and/or Adam Sandler's later oeuvre.

  • Im so excited about Where The Wild Things Are that I am in danger of wetting my pants.

  • I watched The Empire Strikes Back last night.

An underrated classic, don't know why it hasn't had more attention.

PS Where The Wild Things Are should be awesome. They had me at the billboards that you could put your head through and pretend to be Max.

  • yes totally ^ it just takes you along, music pitched to emotion, action well paced and just epic. hardly any like it.on another level- Luke on dagobah, handstands whilst using the force to hold rocks in the air is my main form of yoga training now. pow!

  • I am currently downloading Alice in Wonderland and the 5000 fingers of Doctor T. Never seen 5000 fingers - 1953.

    Screenplay by Dr Seuss.

  • Jaysus!

New Alice in Wonderland in March starring perpetual tripper Johnny Depp.

I personally found Amores Perros to be very "Tarantinoesque". But it was dismally lacking in entertainment and unforgivingly, in it's pacing. Below are links to reviews where the film is either directly referred to as Tarantinoesque, or directly compared to either Pulp Fiction, and or Reservoir Dogs.

    Tarantinoesque - Madman
Tarantinoesque - Movietome (1st review on page)
    Tarantinoesque - Radiotimes (caption, plus 2nd review/opinion)
    Tarantinoesque - EW
    Tarantinoesque - MusicOMH
    Tarantinoesque - eFilmCritic

The last review on eFlimCritic called the film overlong, and uneven. I concur.

  • Shit, I've been listed! :)

Well fair enough. I take it back...

  • Im so excited about Where The Wild Things Are that I am in danger of wetting my pants.

The thought of this is making me dangerously close to wetting my pants.
    I fear I'm not alone.

    Yes to Hurt Locker.

  • Batman Begins on ITV at 20:30.

I do love this movie, but my main problem still is...

If they're using a microwave generator that is enough to boil most of the water in the Gotham sewer system, spreading the chemicals, wouldn't that still boil the blood of most people in Gotham anyway, or at least cause a massive amount of cancerous growth to occur in the population affected?

Any science people want to clue me in on that? Or should I just turn my brain off...

  • Tarantino's fucking shit.

  • Any science people want to clue me in on that? Or should I just turn my brain off...

It follows X-Factor, so take a guess :)

    Tarantino's fucking shit.
    That's disgusting.

  • Watched Moon a while back, a bit weird in a lo-budget kinda way but loved it.

  • Im so excited about Where The Wild Things Are that I am in danger of wetting my pants.

I'm going to try and rob a poster. One of the huge ones that adorn the fronts of cinema's. Not too sure where it'll fit in the worlds' smallest flat, but I'll try nevertheless! I simply cannot wait any longer for this film!

That was made by David Bowie's son Duncan (Zowie Bowie) Jones, wasn't it?

  • I watched reolver - don't bother.
Liked Hancock as it was quite turn brain off, but then I like iron man.

  • I had the misfortune of watching Pearl Harbor for the first time last night... Fuck my days, that is one shit awful yarn. If it wasn't for Kate and the explosions I'd have turned it the fuck off.

    Cut out the middleman. [NSFW]

OMFG, you are a random genius legend!

  • Ok, let's get one thing straight. Amorres Perros is not comparable to Tarantino.

Superficially, yes, the film tells a story through seemingly unlinked characters and occurrences which all seem to somehow magically link back to each other. This is not unique to Amorres Perros nor Tarantino. I think it is lazy of film critics to use the term 'Tarantinoesque'.

To me what makes Amorres Perros interesting is the skill of the director and actors in conveying passion, the script is only so so. Something that is almost anti-Tarantino, his characters intentionally lack depth and conviction.

That film makes me ill. But then I've never seen a film I've liked with any of those actors in.
