I had to ban two long-standing members of the community yesterday. A short 3 day ban, a slap on the wrist.
But why did I find myself in this position? Because they have been bickering for so long now that neither can pass up an opportunity to attack the other and cause yet another argument.
It's not minor, it's not invisible... this atmosphere starts to permeate the forum and affects the behaviour of others... people arrive from Google and think, "That's what this community is about?". And it's not, not at all... but you can't blame people for thinking that.
This place is about the people. First and foremost it's about the people. But
Most of that stuff happens offline with the rides, the meetups, the social life, the interactions and friendships.
What this site shouldn't be about is watching people squabbling on here, that lowers everything.
It hurts me when friends tell me they don't use the site anymore because of the constant fighting. Just as it hurts me when people who really would fit in here tell me that they don't like what they've seen, it's all male-ego and the stuff that comes with that.
I can't and won't do anything about what you say, but I can and will draw a line of what is acceptable and bring that in a little. Maybe all that happened is that I let it go out too far.
So this is the deal... if you're involved in a fight, and you start it... you're going to get a warning. If you've ever had a warning, then next time you're going to get banned for good. Now there might be a chance that if you get that far that at some point in the future I forgive and unban... but if you register aliases and try and get around the ban then it will be permanent and I will take pleasure in devising ways to make accessing the site very hard for you.
So that's it. No more pointless, pathetic, chip-on-shoulder, personal, feuding and bickering.
If you contribute to this place being one that I would not to want to come to and participate in... then as I'm not going anywhere, you will be the one leaving.
