    It does appear to be 135BCD & 80 (ie 79.5). What I am not altogether clear about is the 3/32 vs 1/8 business.

    Your post was a bit unclear. Am I right in thinking that it is likely I have a 3/32 or smaller chain, so that will not work with your 1/8 chainring?

    1/8" is a larger size used only on single speed (freewheel and fixed) bikes. if you have a geared bike your chain will not fit on a 1/8" chainring.
