do you get one continuous BEEP when you boot the PC
-

no...
i get the card to rev up it's fans to full but no digital DVI signal to monitor.
pluggin the DVI to the onboard gfx works fine.i have tried clearing the CMOS and Diabling Onboard graphics.
Also, BIOS POST is not discovering the GFX card...
also uninstalled the ATI drivers
and tried it in different slots.it's a no goer it think.
MOBO reverts to onboard graphics, which ain't too shabby to be honest, but before i phone up the computer vendor i'd like to tell them definitely it's the gfx card or the mobo, save the hassle.

Probably easier to test the GFX card in another machine to be honest. Has the card ever worked?

sounds defo like the graphics card as it fires up and displays the onboard graphics.mobo is sound.i connected the video cable from monitor to back of comp while the comp was booted up once and blew my XFX 6800GT.the £327 heatsink off it is the most expensive copper paperweight ive ever had

ok, i'll be honest i did connect it up whilst the comp was booted up, i didn't know that was a bad thing to do ?
surely modern cards and monitors are made to deal with that ? never read of anyone strictly warning to not to do hot plugging. I'll know for next time.anyway, i'm having it RMA'd so should get a new one by next week which i might sell to get the 2gb version of the 4870 which is miles better.
spoke to the vendors and they agree, with what i've done already that it is most likely the card, however, there is some uncertainty, since it could also be the PSU power leads which i cannot test as i have not got a Digital Multimeter to test it with
by testing with another card i could be 100% certain it is the card or not.
I'm trying to prevent the potential hassle of sending the allegedly broken card of mine, then finding, once it's arrived at the vendors and tested, it's in perfect working order which would be a real PITA. -

no worries.
I have one, if you still nee done.
An ATI HD2450 i think, ill have to check it out.oh yes please that would be awesome.
I have no idea whether my MOBO is stuffed or my GFX card has snuffed it...
I've already swaped my GFX between PCI-E slots with no joy, cleared CMOS and reinstalled ATI drivers for my Win7 HD4870 GFX card... still no joy.
What i need to do now is have a working PCI-E card, any type to put in the machine to see if it works then i can firmly establish if it is indeed the GFX card or my MOBO and ask for a warranty return.
anyone have a PCI-E laying about, as long as it's working it's all good.
I guarantee it'll be back with you ASAP after i've tested my system, which will only take 15mins.
thanks
