Since Threshers did their "accidental leak" deal a few years back this has become the standard form of winter marketing in which a company offers a discount and encourages viral dissemination and in the process acquires new business without having done anything more than they were willing to (the discount) except for choosing to use their potential customers as a cheap source of marketing.

Call me cynical, but I hate that this is now accepted behaviour.

It depends on how you use it though, if you can see through the marketing shite and just sign up buy something save £30 then bugger off then all is fine.

I am unemployed now so if something that I need can be bought for a £30 saving then that allows me to celebrate my first week of being a layabout by spending the money on booze and getting trashed ;p

I wasn't having a snipe at you, it's the cynical side of me sniping at crowd-sourcing the marketing and how big companies are now very much in the habit of this.

I also moan about how adverts all steal their ideas from original ideas that the general public put on youtube, twitter, etc. I hate that marketing is hijacking a genuinely creative thing in crowd-sourced events and threaten to make everyone even less involved in life than they are.

That Threshers thing was a genius piece of marketing (that didn't stop them going under). My only problem with Very copying is that it's plain unimaginative and unoriginal.
