You don't get the ETTL communication, so your limited to controlling via manual mode (but the 580 is pretty customisable). However they are radio controlled, so don't suffer from problems of the canon IR system. Pocket wizards are obviously better, but these are very cheap and work well.
You can get extra units for multiple flashes.
