  • i think there's an errant comma in RPMs last post.

  • no he was out of breath because he is on the rollers training hard.

  • Competition for places on the RPLZ team sprint squad is fierce. But he wasn't training hard - he was training smart. That's why his linguistic skills suffered: the diversion of cognitive processing power.

  • Clive has cognitive processing power?

    Wonders never cease

  • Not Clive - RPM.

Where was your cognitive processing power when you posted that? In your ashtray?

  • kill the weed and get real.

  • Dammo - give CTUK a call **020 7231 6005
Through lambeth its £8. They start you off in Brockers - to assess your level of skillz before you hit the roads. Brixton is my world. I do not want.

  • just was browsing the internet last night and came across this book

on page 62 it has a table of causes of cycling deaths/injuries. now obviously i don't know the accuracy of this data or the sources used, but it suggests that 50% of cyclist deaths/injuries are due to cyclist error, so i assume that cycle training will go some way to reduce the chance of this.

bicycle equipment failure is rated 6%, so will cycle training and a properly maintained bike your chances of injury/death would be reduced.

    this may seem obvious

20% of the causes were linked to road surface defect so i guess reporting potholes on that website (can't find it now) will also help.

    [/obvious post]

  • Even if deaths or injuries are the fault of motorists, with training, a cyclist can learn how not to place him or herself at risk from errant motorists.

That stimulator you posted about elsewhere seems a pretty failsafe method for avoiding injury.

    Hmmm, maybe not......

John Forester is one of the most respected (and controversial, in certain circles) writers on cycling in the world. Well worth reading.

You should always report potholes. You can report them to TfL, on the Streets section of the website. If the street is not managed by TfL, they will forward it to the appropriate borough.

  • ah wonderful! there is a sunken drain going north in the bus lane past russell square that has crack one of my dropouts and caught me out a couple of times.

do sunken drains count? you know, where the man hole cover is about 4 inches below the level of the rest of the road...

  • ype that counts google fillthathole

  • Yes you can report anything (faulty traffic lights, drains, potholes, etc...)

  • just had a call from will (not wiganwill) my cycling instructor, all set for wednesday, just calling to check that i was still alright for it and what i wanted to learn, which is appropriate lane positioning and filtering techniques, also said he could help me find some routes using less major roads (currently doing hampstead, regents park, oxford circus, picadilly circus or, camden southampton row/kingsway etc)

  • I applied for some of this cycle training - arranged a date this afternoon on the phone from work (EC1V) - excellent !
I've got a message on the home phone saying sorry this postcode is actually Islington and so instead of the £8 (for the City of London) it will be £60 for Islington.
Bastard unjoined up London Boroughs -nothing has changed :(
    Start again ...

With a view to offering Cycle Training to anyone who wishes to hone their riding skills wherever they live in London, Cycle Training UK (CTUK)is offering a "Pay what you wish" deal for LFGSS forum members. This offer is available for lessons booked on weekdays between January and March 2010.

Call CTUK 020 7231 6005 to book a lesson and quote PWYW. You can either pay a cheque to the instructor AFTER the lesson or call CTUK to pay by card (or take no action and pay nothing).

  • That is a total bargain.

Pigfarmer is signed up for training as well now.

  • That sounds awesome. Shame I'm not London-based...

    Blimey, amazing offer.

  • People's livelihoods aren't actually going to be affected by the passing whims of the students, are they?

No don't worry plurabelle, CTUK instructors are fully contracted and will not be affected by how generous forum folk are. Jan-March is a quietish time for cycle trainers and we like to keep our skills up during the winter months.

CTUK is a worker's cooperative and the cooperative will bear the brunt of any shortfall. (Though who knows? Some forum trainees may value the benefits of the 2-hour training and be able to afford to and be happy to pay handsomely)

  • I had 2 hours with Will this morning.
    Excellent !
I'm trying to avoid some sort of lame ebay sounding feedback so check the Balki/Wiganwill posts (#93/#97).
    Its all about communication ... trainer-trainee-other road traffic-pedestrians ...
    Well worth it.
    Thanks Will.

Right David; like that is it? :)
Ok, I am now offering free dinner and dancing with every cycle training session.

Seriously though this is a very generous offer from CTUK and hopefully will encourage more people to get some training.
You will be able to find me from now on outside Whitchapel Tesco dancing for small change.
