Mmcarthy, I used to have Looks on my road bike (geared) and rode them for 2 years (ish). I have NEVER had an unwanted unclipping from Look pedals. Downside is, walking in them is wank. The cleats raise the front of your foot 15mm above the rear. They are like reversed high heels...
I now ride Time Atac's on my geared road bike, fixed and MTB. Had them about a year now. Likewise, I have NEVER had an unwanted release with them. They are great offroad, clipping in even with caked on mud. On the road they are great too. Robust as fuck (steer clear of the Aliums if you are a weight weenie) and the cleats are recessed into the shoe.
