Even with the radio on loud, I can't see how you could not realise what you were doing/had done. Unless... He was late and had taken a wrong turn, got annoyed at being held up by a bicycle that pulled up in front of him, then drove through the bike deliberately and knew he was driving over the bike, just didn't realise til no cyclist appeared at the side of the cab that he'd crushed the rider. At that point he clearly panicked and decided the "Sorry, I didn't see him" defence was the easiest.

I bet that is almost exactly what happened, he did it willfully, then said he hadn't noticed.
