Gonna go glasses shopping soon, anyone got any good shops to recommend?
Looking for, I think, vintage ish tortoise shell ones. I know there's a shop in covent garden that does vintage stuff, think it's called Opera Opera? Also Klasik.org that has a stall in spitalfields.
Anyone got any more recommendations?

Because they represent very good value for money.
Why don't you just get the £65 ones in the OP?

I have never used mail order suppliers for glasses before, and they seem a bit dim, they are not opticians but do safety wear like steel boots and hunky workman stuff. I emailed them a question and they have not got back to me. If I use them then I will report back, sir.

You'll normally find me propping up the counter in Specsavers, Dolland & Aitchison or Vision Express. Scrivens is open late on weekends, but it's a rough crowd. Boots use to be alright but has gone really pretentious.

Enter your prescription and pick your glasses. I got a complete cheap pair for £25 and a UV, scratch-proof pair with thin lenses for £50.

Maybe not the trendiest but surely the cheapest?

I've ordered, two weeks or so to arrive. They are either Bolle Slides or Urbans no one seems to know, oh well.

With regards to the above, does anyone know where is best to get tested. I.e. where will they give the most helpful advice and prescription.
I'.ve been wearing glasses since i was 7, but only for screens and reading. Whenever i have been to the opticians they have said my prescription is fine and i've always ended up with the same short of glasses.
Fine for screen and books, but i get almost tunnel vision when i wear them outside, i also find it impossible to talk to anyone and look them in the eye, i have to take the glasses off.Over the last few years i have noticed things getting worse and want to address it with some good advice, a full explaination of my eyesight condition as well as testing for colour blindness. Oh and some nice frames would be an added bonus.
Can anyone recommend anywhere?

Go independant. The Yellow pages should help.

Moorfields? I've been having problems with persistent floaters and they put my mind at rest...

Isn't that more to do with your diet? Too much fibre?
Do you need a referral?

Couldn't help it. Not sure if i would need to visit moorfields, i just don't trust opticians much. The original guy i went to for years was independent and never really gave much explanation or really did anything very thourough. Then i went to optical express who charged a fortune and again weren't particularly impressive.
these days i'm more frugle, are places like boots actually any good, seems to be the question i would like answering.

I go to SpecSavers (I think? Or maybe it's Vision Express, meh...) and they're pretty thorough... My last eye-test lasted about 30mins... I'm guessing all places will be much of a muchness as they're hiring pretty much the same people...

Download a voucher of D&A website and get a test for a tenner. I had one a couple of months ago at big branch on regent Street and they did a loads of tests for eye health, blind spots etc. before I even got to see the optician for the eyesight test itself.
They only give you the standard prescription data to take away but apparantly if you really want you can hit them with an FOI request and get a copy of results of every test plus your PD and then email that info to an optician in Hong Kong and get glasses made up for £20.

+1 for D&A.
optilabs are £ 133.99, how is that 'job done'?
