  • latest build after the Peregrine - single speed cross check.

I have the option of an off-road commute if I feel like it, so this is fantastic.

White industries trial ss (sounds great), Paul Cantis with odd wheels (royce front hub and WI rear) on open pro rims, on one mungo bars, thomson stem/post and the standard rolls saddle.

this rides better than the Singular Peregrine - it shouldn't do?

  • One of my projects, i also have a 4130 cromoly version of this being built....just for fun and games and commuting on.
This was it in it's original conception, has not changed a huge amount, but it is a hideously stiff frame.

    Very nice.

Is that brake lever positioning really usable offroad?
Looks like it would twist your elbows/wrists in too much IMHO.

  • And here it is on the velodrome in Rio, with one of the Brasilian track team in tow.David Romero the kilo Brasilian record holder.......

  • that looks radial on the back : O

  • mine?...the rear wheel is, but it works.....for now.will let you know when it fails!

  • ...the rear wheel is (radial)...will let you know when it fails!

    please do

"rear radial" apparently is becoming LFGSS subject of the week...

  • seems it is, in all honesty mine is through laziness, i only had spokes long enough to do half radial in stock, and had to wait a week for the right length.Didn't want to wait so built it, and even though i now have the right length ones i can't be bothered to change them......

  • what is the thing hanging off the saddle on the geekhouse? seen it on a few bikes, never understood its purpose...

  • It is a length of chain inside some inner tube, to stop the saddle getting stolen.

  • Ahh... sneaky. Thanks. What about the old glue in the bolts trick or using odd sized allen bolts?

  • Each to their own I guess. Whatever you have available/makes you feel safest...

Mine's stitched... But only cos glue wasn't workingp

not really offroad - just towpaths and trails.

bars are more for aesthetics though - the midge ones are more comfortable...

  • hey all, everyone seems to done a great job on their bikes i'm looking to buy a frame in january and make something of it just wondering if anyone had any tips that they may have to make the process a little more understandable for a complete novice!

    much appreciated.

  • Read the entire Sheldon Brown site. You will then be on the path to becoming a fixolord.

  • Fixolord!

Will you be buying a road frame and 'converting it', or a frame designed for fixed gear?

    http://sheldonbrown.com/fixed-conversion.html

The site's not really up to date anymore, due to his passing, but it's still the place where are lot of people referred to when starting out and still continue to do so.

  • also remember the list of mech and fixing websites in the mechaninic forum - loads of useful site to get you started. esp. this one: http://www.fixedgeargallery.com/colu...age/indexb.htm

IMO start with that then do sheldon.

  • On another subject didn't there used to be a girlfriends bike building thread somewhere on this forum?

I'm fucked if I can find it.

  • Hi, long time reader, fist time poster.

Proper current project....I'm not good with all things mechanical, but this is amazing!! awesome effort!!

  • These bolt on cogs are lovely pieces of engineering.

  • EPIC WIN!

Looks great Henry. I wanna see this next thursday!

Please do not send this to armourtex. Massive waste of money. Frame looks unique. Sell it and buy a Langster Steel like Ed mentioned.

Very true. Just out of interest, can you get a fixed free bolt on?
