shorter cranks bring your pedal stroke inward in all directions, so it's higher at the bottom, and lower at the top. i would think that cranks too long would be worse for your knees since they create more range in knee flex, but any size setup wrong or that doesn't fit you will be bad. you can spin faster with shorter cranks, but they'll also be harder to skid since leverage works in both directions obviously. my thoughts are the mid-sizes are best (165 or 170) for most people
