  • extremely useful for finding out the right position on your bike.

I only paid £50 for mine thought, but for the money, it save me getting stem with different length to see whether it's more or less comfortable, so it did help saving a bit of money in future.

Exactly why I want one - not too happy with current stem and want the ability to adjust it to find a better riding position.

  • Had one on my TT bike since 1994 - perfect for finding and keeping the ideal position (and adjusting as well: low front end for 10m vs higher position for 24 hr riding)

  • I think these are hot.
Earlier this year I got a NOS quill version and now I've just bought this one (also new).
If you have patience and a lot of luck, you can have them for relatively small money.
Maybe I'm going to ride it.
Perhaps my kids (with a whole career to go) will use it more that I do.

  • dibs if you sell, depending on price.

  • no stem is worth £220

  • true that. I got that one ^^up there (the black one) for ¿£20.

  • Got my Ergostem ahead oversized NOS one for EUR 65.- incl postage
Quill 1" for 26 mm (?) bars for EUR 20.- excl postage, also new.
I know that it's far below UK and Ebay standard, so I recommend you to take a "look" in NL. Looks like people here don't want them that much.
Keep an eye on it for you guys.
I will keep both my stems.
The next one is for you...

  • noice.

  • I got 2. £40 I think (Each)
Need it on my lo pro to get a good riding position and it's great. I think it looks good too. Bit of a marmite component.

  • hot hot!!

Snap. Although not riding my low pro anymore, need to sell it. And the stem..

  • Ok so i'm building up my roberts, and it was always going to be a little long for me (59mm ctc toptube). But its such a nice frame i was determened to make it fit, so i got an ergostem with the idea of using it to find the ideal stem position and then buying a stem which matched its position best. However i put it on and i acctually think it looks ok... and also the way the bars are set up is the equivelant to a 65mm stem, i would like to get the nitto pearl 80mm but it may be too long.

So excuse the dark photo but what do you reckon... stick with the ergo which provides the perfect position, or go with the pearl which probably would not feel as comfortable but certainly look awesome.

  • what is your bike for?

if fixie skidding to the pub buy whatever you think looks prettiest

if you want to ride it buy a 65mm stem

The original idea was a good one...

...I was thinking of doing the same...prob a ahead and then use a quill adapter for ultimate versatility.

But seriously? You've now found the length you need, so just buy it. Why on earth would you buy a shorter stem than you know you need?

Also if you take it off then you can keep it in good nick and sell or use next time you need to work out stem length. Also I've heard they're not that reliable.

  • And the Nitto 80mm stem are actually 90mm long.

  • @ DJ its not a fixie skidder, its for next year at herne hill.

@hugo7 i know i have found the size i need, and i could get an old gb stem for example in 60-70mm length and use it... but i think i'm answering my own question, in that i actually quite like the ergo, and the ability to adjust it whenever i like.
    Ergosteem ftw :)

@ed thats good to know, hadn't realised.

  • Do you think that thinking your bike looks good will make you go faster than having a bike that fits?

  • Shut up, James...

  • Shut up, James...

    +1

  • Fuck it

put risers on it and too long a stem can you haz them annodized or powder coated?

Or just get the right length stem

it's not rocket science, "when it comes to the end I'll be too busy looking good"

....right. Not sure what you had in your cereal this morning, but i don't really see where you going with this :)

  • Have never understood the idea of buying something that does not fit just because it looks good.

The ergo stem has done it's job, told you what you need. But now you want assurance that buying something that looks good is better than buying a stem that fits.

  • What was I thinking

buy the stem and then get a frame to fit
