• Good evening.

I managed to pop the downtube shifter braze on off my rick powell tt frame and wondered if I can reattach it without requiring a respray?

There are various metal epoxy glues that claim to be as good as brazing but I'm sceptical.

Could I get it re-brazed without damage?

Anyone got any experience of this most disappointing of situations?

    Cheers!

  • Good old SJS...

  • missed your sardonic quips P. glad to see you.

  • if you braze it you will burn the area your working with! but if the frame builders are careful it wont be bad!

i wouldnt trust glue personally because theres loads of tension running through!

  • blu-tac FTW

  • I tried blu-tac but it didn't work.

Think I'll try dried on weetabix next, I'll let ya'll know how I get on.

  • silver solder will require less heat than brazing. would still expect a bit of paint bubbling though.

there is some metal paste called devcon (or devcon?) that i guess has some epoxy in it that looks like metal when it hardens.

  • OK cheers, I've got some araldite metal epoxy which has similar blurb to devcon, I'll give it a try.

Maybe the frame should be made into a fixie after all, despite everyone telling me not to make it a fixie and me selling half the bits. Bugger.

  • My dad re-attached a spit valve on a trumpet using super glue. It fell off after a while and me and the instrument repairers had a good laugh at his foolishness.
