Plenty of superior axle options available out there, what are you all in a huff about?
There is plenty of things on bikes and elsewehere in other products that doesnt work as well as something from a few years ago or with a cheap upgrade but still dead common.
Im surprised how common 14mm solid axles are considering how heavy they are and how long thru-axles have been available and how simple it is to make them.
You could argue that bmx crank technology is stupid for still using single bolt "chainwheels" when there is much better stuff available, or that the whole euro BB thing died so quick when using external BB mtb/dh cranks wouldve been so much more convenient for everyone especially with micro-drive fashions.

Not in a huff just stating what I've got, I think Potetskrel is doing the same.

Heck why dont bmx's have kooky tapered tubes, wishbone junctions and a million gussets anymore? It so simply makes a frame so much stronger. Give the kids something they can huck down stairs for years and years?
What about nobraks® as standard on many bmx's, or noseatpost® ?

i don't understand what is the problem here? i thought 10mm front, 14mm rear was the most common set up?

pastrylover is a late 90's-early 00's era bmxer who has recently been buying new bmx bits which he no longer understands, being annoyed at the monotony of emo-kid-talwhips at the local park and the use of gum shields.
In the early 00's all bikes were coming with 14mm front & back. Now everythings gone a bit sissy, 36spoke wheels & 10mm axles. Does not compute.

sorry - i failed to put the word 'front' in the title.Comments directed a pastyadmirer there. He seems to be a moaning old fart when it comes to anything bmx.
You seem to be some sort of joke. You really make me laugh, how you seem to think you're some sort of walking encyclopedia who thinks he knows it all about bikes and cycling...
Let me go into a bit more detail....
After 3 years of bending and snapping countless 10mm axles I'm pretty sure any rider would be as stoked as I was to finally be able to use something that was strong enough to hold up to peg use. In 6 years of using the same wheels with the same (hollow) 14mm axles, neither of them are even slightly bent, despite the fact that I deliberately treated them roughly.
Nowadays, what complete bike comes with a 14mm axle up front? If you can find one I'll be impressed, because even the supposedly 'street' bike that I bought came with a 10mm.
How many 14mm front hubs with 36 holes are there for sale nowadays? Not many. I haven't found any. People are practically being forced to use 10mm at the front because there is barely any other choice.
You actually think I dislike 10mm axles for no good reason? You seem to have failed to realise that 10mm axles bend very easily when used with pegs. It's nothing to do with being grumpy or nostalgic, it's nothing to do with 'new bits that I no longer understand', you patronising little cunt. It's to do with the obvious fact that 10mm axles are very weak in comparison to 14mm axles and they do not allow you to use your pegs fully without ending up with a fucked bike after a few days or even hours of riding.
For example, fufanu to icepick is one of the few tricks I can do. When you only have a few tricks, you tend to do the same ones over and over again. You think any 10mm axle is going to stand up to someone repeatedly slamming their entire weight onto the end of it?
Of course, you wouldn't know that - it seems that everything you know about BMX comes from geekily studying websites and other forms of written information, rather than from actual practical riding experience.

Learn how to ride smooth or lose some weight. You are talking serious nonsense.

Kindly point out exactly where I have spoken any nonsense, and explain why it is nonsense.
Otherwise, do one.
edit: Actually no, you must be right, and I must be wrong. You win, I apologise for being too fat and not riding in a suitable style to prevent weak parts from breaking.

There are thousands of riders who have absolutely no problem riding street with 4 pegs on 10mm front axles. I have some friends who just can't help it and always cry when something changes within the industry plus the fact that they can't rider for shit and break parts all the time because they're not smooth. Get over it, HTFU and smooth your riding style out because 10mm can be very strong. Or by female-axle hubs like G-Sport and so many other clones nowadays - another good new 'standard' in the BMX industry. Seems to me that you're just stuck in the 90s.

haha, it is true tho, the majority of bmxers get along fine with 10mm axles.
could get some gsport's, still 10mm but bolt on rather than thru axle which is claimed to be stronger than a 14mm axle. get that.

For most people who don't use pegs 10 mm would be fine.
Gsprots original hubs where built to fit in old frames with with 10 mm hubs. Still on lifetime guarantee.

dam already said but
The no seat post no brakes thing that everyone runs now gets me more. Also the lack of people doing Rob Ridge style front brake action
also PL calm down and wipe the screen, DFP was disagreeing with you but no need to get your knickers in such a twist.

Hold on, im getting confused here, you are moaning about 10mm front axles and then list fuf to Ice as a reason to have 14mm? eh? what force are you putting on a front axle to bend it? erm? tooth pick? smith? what height are you coming down from? 100 foot? X-treme!

I agree with "pastry lover" I have always tried to run a 14mm hub on the front because peg riding.
I'm not really heavy and my riding style is pretty smooth from having a sketchy bike in the past and Having to flow otherwise parts would fall off, Bmx parts are getting lighter but there is a downside to this and it is strength.Oh and i have no brakes and hardly any seat and 28 inch bars, Its the fashion now, but i rode that anyway, wideshoulders, blah blah blah

+1. That front axle must be hella weak when doing a rear wheel/peg trick makes it bend!

LolZers!
Was just making a humorous quip at the fact youve been making a thread about nearly everything about bmx these days you dont like.
I totally understand your issues but probably dont relate to needing 14mm axles on the front because I was never good enough at BMX to grind anything.
The thing I was "getting at" that you might have overlooked, is FASHION.
So you cannot really expect fashionable bmx labels to be putting them on their bikes. The same way you wont see people riding ditchforks too often even if they are a heavy peg abuser.
You can get hold of a 36h hub with either a 14mm or a thru axle if you really want it. But obviously they are not as popular. A lot of lower end complete BMX's aimed at kids actually do still have 14mm front and rear, sometimes in the case of 36h too.
But otherwise you can buy this:

or this:

or this even:
Took me a minute to find.
