it's not invite only it just ain't been put on the forum yet. but were looking to start a thread but we wanted to give it some legs b4 we posted it. It was just charco, his misses & me learning how to play polo in september so we started playing tues, wed, thurs as it got addictive and learning to get better so can play league next year so aimed to do the halloween throw in tourn which was sweet. Then people we know from cycling community bump into at drinks or forum friends have been invited to play and it's grown.
next step is thread. oh wait this is the thread!
@skoota we play cross ways as the council come up once or twice a night so it keeps the cones out the way of them driving. also you get nice goal-D from one of the carpark spaces which works well also the walls help for behind the goal to stop the ball. But last night we tried the goals differently (we wern't there when u guys played b4) and it was sweet so we just need to adjust.
If we see trevor & friend they shall be given beers. If we would of seen them thursday i think it would of been better anyway and we kind of know how it can work and would been more cool as we know what they want in space. Shit this had to happen before we saw it each other again or before they left. i feel bad.
oh yeah anyone want to play polo in peckham carpark. There most tues, wed, thurs eve or wed sometimes at sarth!

If it's working for you, keep on doing it! More polo players = more polo fun.

we just wanted to play polo as much as possible & learn some stuff. We would like to play a team game but everyone else is so busy with the league which we missed out on as started a month too late.

Just come down to a regular throw-in day and ask if you guys can play as a team. Shouldn't be a problem. Teams often get thrown-in together (accidentally and not always accidentally).

Brendan, firstly as everyone in the polo community is aware it’s not a secret. I just never felt the need to start a thread on the subject as it began 2 months ago with just me & my girlfriend just tapping around to see if polo would be a fun thing to do. (quite addictive in fact)
Since we’ve been going there, we’ve talked frequently with both police & the council at the car park, they’ve always welcomed the use of the space & I’ve always made a point of keeping it clean & the noise down.
I did feel that I’d ultimately start a thread once it was happening when I didn’t go, (last night was the first I’ve missed in 2 months of 3 nights a week as I was ill), once 12+ people would come and play polo and/or south polo would overlap on Wednesday nights for much faster throw-ins. Three nights a week I cycle over and carry 4 cones, 4 balls & 8 mallets so people can play… from me and my GF, there were friends then friends of friends & anyone I spoke to who seemed keen to try polo without the pressure of experienced players getting annoyed at they’re slow/poor playing, this hardly represents invite only?
In my absence last night there seemed to be some trouble, I’m not sure what yet as I’m just back from work, I’ll feel let down if any one from polo was rude to others in the space as your out-of-the-blue-post seems to suggest something personal, I’ll look into it. As this strikes me as something I should know about.
Yes, 4 of us entered the Halloween tourney, 3 of whom placed in the top 4 teams. From tapping around in peckham in mid September to entering the tourney late October was an incentive to get better & enter, that goal was achieved.
Secret polo was never secret, as you guys made that name up. Maybe I have left it a little late to start a thread, bill did suggest that, but the demographic of players is largely non-fourmengers. As with all polo everyone is welcome. Currently playing Tuedsay, Wednesday, Thursday 7:30 – 11. I’ll always try get down 1st so no one feels unsafe on their own.

funny, that a secret group against cliques made a ... secret.. invite only ... clique ...
oops. meant to say 'off-shoot' or something.it's not about against cliques its about learning to play polo. some of you guys have known each other and been playing polo together for two years or more. it's hard for someone who wants to learn to play polo to go to throw-ins. League players have got considerabley better too. It is hard for a league player to play with a noob when there at different levels. It's hard for a noob to learn basics when there playing against league players. Some pick it up quicker than others.

@charco and gormley do as you like, i'm pleased that the car park goes on, its just funny that nobody knew of it and then trev who showed us the spot was asked if he could move away a bit. Spoke to him today and thought fuck it, you should know who put you there. Your using my cristian name charco so i assume we have met?

Yes at souths a few times last year.Using the carpark for polo was largly a coinsidence, me & sassy played on level 3 for the first few weeks.
I didn't know of trev being asked to move, all makes sense now. Gormely isn't always the best ambassador, but he loves polo & probably meant nothing bad. I'm still too ill to play any polo tonight, so we'll see if it still happens.

Charco was one of the top volunteers at the Euros and because of him we were able to have an even smoother operation.
Then he started a polo club for newbies, something none of us got off the ground! Frickin awesome!!
We've known about it for some months now and have talked (pub talk only) about what we can do to help get newbies to them and them to us.
You guys keep playing and don't mind that chat here.
We're all worried about our precious polo places because they are few and far between.
Maybe if southies have to move to peckham you'll all naturally get to play together, you'd be a force! As for newbies starting with newbies, let's remember that that's what most of us did.

Completely crap thread about a 100% righteous venture... Nice one, Ciaran, hope to see you guys down there soon (if I get a spare moment)... Some people take shit way too seriously...

BUT you'll get better, faster, by playing people that are better than you...
or just really, really bored watching people ride rings round you week after week whilst you don''t actually get any better.
North's are oing a similar thing as I understand it, taking some time to learn the basics before joining one ofthe more established nights and courts.
If it spreads the scene then surely it's a good thing.

this thread is insane.
Good Ol' Brick Lane.
That first summer was amazing, Aidan was shouting at people for getting on the court, Stef flashing his tats, and hardly enough players to make a game. bagels and sun. Mmmm .
