  • Thanks for sharing your knowledge people. I'm keeping my fingers crossed it has a screw on block. Wish me luck.

i've got one of those adaptor spacer things in my desk.

..Dogballs. Is it going spare? If I need it can I buy it off you?

  • if you want, i'll dig through my drawers.

  • Got my tri spoke. Looks like the block will screw off. I'll find out when I get home. I am an excited person today.

  • that kit from HED, has NO threads for a lockring.

  • Mumbling away to yourself... Keep up grandad!
It is gonna be a *front wheel *.

  • I've been thinking same about my aerospoke. I reckon it's possible?

  • converting aerospoke front to aerospoke back?

^ all you need to do for that is buy the necessary hub from the aerospoke website. The whole hub is v. v. easily replaceable.

  • Can you not take the freehub off like this...
I've just bought a rear specialized tri spoke and want to convert it to a front wheel or a fixed but haven't recieved it yet and I dunno what hub it's got.

Does anyone know what hub it's likely to be?

If you have a wheel with a freehub body like this and you remove the freehub body then the right hand bearings and race come off with it leaving the hub/wheel useless.
However, if someone who is handy in a machine shop could make a piece to fit over the splines on the hub body (doesnt need to engage the splines) and act as a bearing carrier (possibly bolt it on with the original 10mm allen key bolt - most right hand piece in the diagram) then the wheel could be respaced and used as a front.
It may even be possiblt to cut down a freehub body to do his job.
Also, aren't the hubs splined and bonded to the rest of the wheel? Take 1 good condition rear cassette wheel - remove hub and keep rest of wheel - find fucked track/front wheel on ebay (seen a few with split/damaged rims, buckles etc) - remove hub and bond into rest of wheel from before = one good cheap? front wheel.

  • Hello. My rear tri spoke has now made it self a new home on the front of my bike. I am stoked it fitted. It has been a bit of a bodge job: Instead of getting a conversion kit or new axle I just replaced the spacers and used nuts on the outside to hold it on to the forks. The axle only just squeezed into the fork dropouts but it has worked. It's riding really nice.

  • How much did the trispoke cost you?

  • £136 + postage.

  • how much was postage?

  • £15 postage

  • £15 postage

Finally what type of Hub was on the wheel ?
_ Screwed freewheel on threaded hub?
_ Freehub with cassette that you clip on ?

    Thanks

    yeah!!
    what hub did you have?
and waht exactly did you do??
I hve 3 rispoke sittin g in my basement ready to be fixed

    please let us know

  • where can i get one of those....awesome!

  • I've just got a rear HED with a cassette on from a Triathalon bike and want to convert it to a fixed rear. Do I just need the conversion kit from HED, not really sure about swapping it over. Rear to Rears got to be easier than rear to front.

I've email HED to see what they say.

  • you can't convert a cassette wheel to fixed, totally the wrong type of hub body for that. I think you've bought the wrong wheel!

  • I thought the same but just saw this:
    http://www.hedcycling.com/accessories/hed3_rear_track_kit.asp

I thought it was only the screw on type hubs you could convert but looks like they've come up with something new...

  • That's what I found. I've emailed HED to see if the :

HED 3 rear track axle kit Cassette adaptor
Hed 3 cassette track kit rear wheel. Includes steel solid axle, cones,
spacers, outer lock nuts, and end nuts with captive rotating washer, cassette
adaptor. Adaptor is threaded for a lockring.
    MSRP: $100

would work in converting the hub. If not I'll sell the rear on.

  • you need a surly fixxer. You can swap the freehub into i fixed hub
just pray you don't have the old style shimano hub, if you do the fixxer isn't compatible with it.

    Surly Fixxer disagrees.

  • still need to work out what Shimano hub I have. Seems the Surly doesn't work on old and new ones!

  • I'll take a photo of the wheel so maybe someone on here can help find out if it's 'fix-able'

  • So anyone know if I can convert this to a fixed?
