If I want to drive - I drive. When I say that I use the road by whatever means I choose I actually mean that I have a choice. 90% of the time I use my bicycle - it's much easier. Anyone want to buy a 1989 BMW M3 and a Smart? I'll listen to sensible offers for my Aprillia RSV Mille too! Most drivers don't hate cyclists - it's an entirely envious issue. They truly wish that they had the freedom that cyclists do, but they don't. That's what they're pissed off about. Cyclists don't look smug, that's just an expression of pure, unadulterated freedom upon their faces.
I have to add that the vast majority of animosity I've experienced has been from cab and bus drivers - such bitter people. And the bloke who's Porsche wing mirror I managed to whack. Ouch.
