you can use it on alloy but with alloy being soft your not really gaining anything unlike steel! also the all crown maybe bonded to the carbon! try the coke can! maybe start off with 1 thin strand then work your way up until you get a nice fit!
i doubt there has been a bit welded on just how the fork was made? maybe post a picture of the column?
