'Traffic-free' usually means 'motor traffic-free', too--it's worth developing the discipline to think of that. Otherwise, you end up involuntarily implying that all traffic is motors.
'Traffic-free' would mean 'devoid of people', which I suppose can sometimes seem attractive, but could get a bit grating after a while. ;)
