Traffic free on that route is near impossible to my knowledge. A22 is awful and the A270 is not much better, all the roads nearby are being used by commuters as well so don't expect it to be much better. About 9 years ago I used to cycle a lot between Brighton-Eastbourne and Uckfield and would not recommend the area for a "quiet ride".
Only way to do it on a "quiet route" is taking a massive detour and go the scenic route.
You'll be racking up the miles quickly though.
