This is an incredible scenario and outcome. I'm really pleased that you've got it back. Shame about the innocent gumtree girl...
:) Bless her.
How much was the bike worth anyway? Since your friend was willing to buy it back off her.
Also, will she be respraying it I wonder? How much would it set her back? -

Yes to cup of tea! And sympathy. You nice person you. But I vote No to free bike. Yes to beater-build, as an act of goodwill, at cost. I'm sorry she's crying but maybe that's necessary, treat it as a 'learning moment', she needs to understand the whole supply and demand thing with 'second hand' bikes is actually built on stolen stuff sold for crack.

I'd have more sympathy for someone who bought from gumtree than from brick lane. I know people here check the gumtree ads - did anyone see this bike for sale?

My friend tillier had her bike 'Marcellin' stolen from outside the Richmix Cinema in September see thread here... https://www.londonfgss.com/thread29204.html
/attachments/17377It has just been spotted about 30 mins ago locked up outside Strada on Commercial St. There is no disguising that this is Tillier's bike, minus the change of colour, it still has the same old headset, and my old back wheel which I sold her. NO parts have been changed so likelihood is this person either nicked (admittedly, doubtful) or just bought it complete.
We have locked the shit out of the bike and left a number to call when they come back to the bike. Tillier has pre called the police just in case we get into a bit of a ruccas...Uhm, anything else we need to think about ?
Oddly after seeing the Blessed Mother Mary of Jesus engraved on a lady's leg - I have come 'round to this whole religious thing.

I find the constant use of the word "fabulous" to be a bit grating.

Look, you're all completely missing the point with the gumtree/respray girl and whether or not we get her a new bike.
Robofoxx... A couple of questions.
- Have you got her number to get hold of her again?
- How tall is she? (what frame size)
- Is she cute?
- Any idea if she's single?
If anyone on the forum wants to take the heavy old steel bike that's rusting in my garden cos I never get around to doing it up and can spend a day bashing it apart, replacing some bearings, re-oil it, replace the brake cables and blocks, then present it to the bereft young lady, you're more than welcome.
I think she's learned her gumtree lesson now. For me, the bike is becoming an eyesore. I'd much rather see a naive girl riding that bike than me have it's slow death by rust on my conscience. And if she's not-of-this-country, I'm assuming her stay here is somehow time-bounded and that she won't want to invest too heavily in a new ride if she's departing our shores in the not too distant, so this might be perfect. If you want, make a deal with her that she gives it back when she leaves - then we'll see how fucking honest she REALLY is!
So if someone would like to take the excuse to be a knight in shining armour for a bikeless maiden, and possibly ask her out for a couple of drinks by way of a thank you to see if the two of you might get on, you know, in that way, then it could be a beautiful thing all round. Alternatively, she might think you're a turd, take the bike and fuck off, but I feel you have to think positive with the things... ;-)
So, any takers for the role of white knight? (Assuming she's not too small for the bike and she doesn't mind a man's frame or a rusty old bag of bolts to ride).

I put Slaytanic up for a position on the new Supreme Court - in charge of 'bitches and shit' but they wouldn't listen . . . the foo's.
