Umm... Velorution?

  • Any publicity is good publicity?

  • Not a troll.

    And seriously, who needs reasons?

When someone says something daft, and you highlight the errors of their way... isn't that done with the hope that the other party will realise the error and correct it?

i.e. if you don't allow them to then aren't you now doing a disservice and being block-headed?

Apologies should be accepted when offered.

  • T'is a little odd though, no? I'm all for apologies (I've said a few heartfelt ones myself) but as far as threads from the dead go I is a bit sceptical...

  • Andreas, if that is you (velorution)......as Velocio has rightly said, you recognition for the past error, is very welcome.

I never removed your Scorcher Urban from the OTP list, because I thought that would just be petty and spiteful. I'm glad people have possibly seen it in the list, and purchased it from your shop.

I also realise that you gave jobs (try-outs) to 2 forumengers on here, so you were obviously not all bad.

I doubt you have changed your political outlook, but saying sorry is a very big thing in this country.

  • my god. i'd totally forgotten about this article. that's horrific. how could you publish something like that?

  • Mary works there and she's a racist hick.

    Jim jams told me so.

  • I think its 16 months too late, frankly. I do pop in there from time to time for odds and sods now, having avoided it for a while after all this^. Going in there reminds me of an episode of Upstairs, Downstairs. Salt of the earth nice folk downstairs, and a prickly unfriendly atmosphere upstairs. I always try to be chatty to Andrea and I can never quite believe how humourless the guy is.

  • It's kind of like Jan Moir. You publish nasty crap, then publish a half-arsed apology when the shit hits the fan. And now you apolgise again, and it's not hard to understand the cynicism. But, if you are genuine, four questions: -

    1) Why did you pick tghis particular moment to apologise?
    2) Are you apologising on other forums/fora and places?
    3) What was the error of judgement? That you held/hold the views you expressed in the first place, or that you expressed them publicly?
    4) You say "our" - were these the collective views of Velorution or just Andrea?

  • The reason I posted the comment above is that we still get people unearthing that can of worms. I wish to make our position clear. It was a mistake I made and I apologise.
    Andrea

  • Apologies should be accepted when offered.

Not always the case. What if you're wife was raped and murdered yet the fella in the dock apologised in court?

  • I'm not racist, some of my best mates are coloureds

  • Not always the case. What if you're wife was raped and murdered yet the fella in the dock apologised in court?

Certainly exactly the same thing as happened here. Good call.

  • Certainly exactly the same thing as happened here. Good call.

Besides, he hasn't met my ex-wife.

  • True, you really should apologise for that.

  • I think it has probably taken Andrea this long to realize the near-permanent effect it would have on people.

Who knows, it could just all be about lost profit. But come what may, he's latterly seen that the article was deeply offensive to others........and maybe even to people he has actually liked. Better late than never.

  • Only 34 shopping days until Christmas...

  • Hmmm. Not interested in bumping the rascism issue but interested in what people thing of VR.

I bought a jacket for my GF's birthday last month from VR and she found it was too small. So we toodled down to VR to change it. No problem - staff (forumenger) remembered me and have left the small jacket and ordered a larger size. My GF then saw some nice gloves for us both. One pair marked £10 and the other £13. When she came to pay it was £13 for eachpair! She politely insisted that the shop charge the price shown but the owner guy was rude and uncompromising and accused her of profiting from the reduced price - even after admitting that they had bought them in some time ago to sell at the lower price. Should have walked away but in the end bought one pair. Disappointed as I had been looking to buy a Brooks saddle (or two for the tandem) from them. Still least I know where I won't be going once I get the jacket..

  • That's just shitty behaviour from the owner. It's also in breach of trading laws.

I could understand a refusal to sell at the marked price if it was accidentally wildly out and would never hold a small independant trader to that. However, if the gloves were bought to be sold at a price then it suggests that you aren't costing them anything to buy them at that price.

I've never been to VR, and living outside of London doesn't make it much of an option. But I can now say that I would be inclined to actively avoid them. There are a number of other independant cycle shops that demonstrate much more business sense and a far better approach to customer service.

    What trading laws are those?

There is no law stating that you have to sell something at the marked price.

  • From trading standards.

The buyer cannot insist that a trader sells anything at the marked price, whether or not the trader has made a mistake. However, action can be taken against the trader for giving a misleading price indication. A number of unfair pricing practices are banned.

I think you'll find that this qualifies.

  • Velorution have a captive Market of people who tend to want classic looking heavy shopper bikes andaccessories for milfs on bikes.

Their main crowd do not appear to be serious cyclists, instead it's well heeled central londoners.

It appears they have identified a niche and exploit it well. Somehow it means they can get away with appalling service and actively excluding certain groups - eg fixie skidders and non Caucasian immigrants.

Not somewhere I would chose to shop. I can find want they have elsewhere without having to pay over the odds or get service with a sneer.

  • I was in Halfords the other day and got a set of Avid speed dials for 5 quid less because they had marked them wrong - i told them when the till scanned em at a higher price, and they still sold them at the wrong lower marked price, because as they said, its the law

    And this also qualifies...

I don't Think velorution was in breach of any trading laws

  • I **think **you'll find that the misleading pricing supercedes the non-commital of marked pricing and ergo is in breach. Mind you, IAMATSO so it's just my opinion. If I were a TSO I would be inclined to call the owner a git and tell him to shape up.

  • You really think he was being misleading?

Anyway all he has to do is refuse to sell the item. Then you're well within your rights to call him a git under law 1050b of the local git law of 1524.
