what a great story. from the classic lightweights link provided by the seller of the jim soens bicycle.
Paul Gittens remembers this, one of the last shots taken of Tommy Simpson racing in the UK at the New Brighton Promenade Criteriums in 1967 (June?). The continental pros came over for this and the Vaux GP next day but their plane was late and their bikes got lost so Tommy borrowed a Team Peugeot look-a-like from a young lad in the crowd and rode that. As luck would have it it was a Tommy Soens, clearly seen in the photo taken from the February 1968 'Sporting Cyclist'.
just thought i'd share it with you. have a good week y'all.

Because the front mech is a brase-on mech, and has been attached to an adaptor?

Brouwer, see above ^^^
Benny Brouwer from the small place Balkbrug used to be an amateur road racer in the 1980 or so. E.g. Batavus team for a couple of years.
He owned (or worked in, financed by other people) several bike shops and went bankrupt at least 10 or 20 times.
Nowadays he has a bike shop (again) in Zwolle.
I guess he stil owes money to a lot of people...He liked to be profiled as a frame builder and was even photographed with a torch, but I really doubt if he ever built 1 frame himself (I mean a frame that lasted > 1 year).
Frames with his decals can come from all different sources. Reason see above.
The small decal with Italian flag on one of the pics reminds me of dutch wholesaler Henk Kokke (Cornelo bikes), who supplied to customers with a bad reputation, too.
I think there is also a link between Brouwer and Clemenso (Belgium).Found this about Clemenso (google translation):
Hercka was led by Clement Schmitz. On page 260 in 1973 Velo see him far left (in part) on the photo-Goldor Herckaploeg.
When I made the acquaintance of Mr. Schmitz, his company was already established in Diest, Belgium. It was more a family business where the wife, son and daughter each had their role. The Schmitz company boasted that they made their own frames, so no such imported from Italy. It seems that world champion Hennie Kuiper rode a Hercka-frame, although painted over.
As Hans has already quoted the company changed its brand name. For the ordinary
cycles was changed to Hercka Euro and Euro Velo Bicycle and the race bikes were called Clemenso (of Clement, in his Italian). Early years there were 80 contacts with Jos Elen and reason with the riders of Elro Clemenso's.
In 1982 there was a collaboration between Clemenso and Mavic and would Truyers Noël (editor of Cyclo Sprint) team manager of a new team with mostly Australians. In the spring we took a few frames Clemenso-lovers to the works of Mavic, near Lyon, where the bicycle parts to adapt to the frames. Mavic came on the market with its kopseries, own brackets, etc. and wanted to test. Hence the sponsorship of the new team.
In the spring rates was launched including Wayne Hildred, Shane Sutton, Eric Bishop, Toni Perri. Some Dutch were also included in the team, such as Benny Brouwer, Ad Polak. When the Belgians came Eddy Furnier and Rudi Bormans strengthen the ranks. Stunning results were not to write, but still drove Hildred Bordeaux-Paris and Shane Sutton became champion of America. Sutton would some years later to fit into English teams and even took part in the Tour de France.
In 1983 Truyers wanted to extract a particular Limburg pro team, but when
money on the table had come, saw fraudulent practices of the new lender daylight, so that even fled abroad. No money, no team and ... Noël Truyers immersed himself in journalism.
Clemenso have supplied material to Elro SNACKS AUTO-BRABANT, with Rudi Bormans and Benny Schepmans. Not long after, co-sponsorship of a professional team shut down.
The company Hercka, aka Clemenso, closed its doors and Mr. Schmitz is deceased for several years. -

Or spend £150 on Pengy's ugly sister, apparently a 'fixed gear track racing bike vintage'. Look no braks muthafuckers. Rear wheel cost £100, braps. -

Hard to believe that this won't be rotten to the core (though the paint looks OK ish), already on £122 with 2 days... but it's a Hobbs. And it's fillet brazed. And apparently it's a 'fixie'.
lovely handlebars and pedals. on the rare fixie the seller has you'll find an old cinelli chrome stem, not much chrome left though.
sorry if i missed something.
