PS3 has just died. The disc reader has failed. Sony want £99 to fix it (without even seeing it) plus any other costs for related issues. Everything else works fine. Have to wait till I get paid to fix it. Seriously annoyed now.

Any laptop sata drive should work, but check before buying. Not sure what the maximum it will take. Put a 500Gb drive one in a few months ago. Very easy to do. Must back up your existing drive first as removing it wipes it. You also need to download the sony operating system to a disc or flash drive and install this on the new drive before you can put your saved stuff on. I did this after the warranty had ended. Not sure it it voids an existing warranty. Check first. I don't want to be responsible for killing your machine.
