Make sure you've enough seatpost left in the seat tube.
If it's 1cm too long, cut off max. 12mm or so.
Are you sure it ill go deep enough in your frame and that the "oval" part will not be the problem?
A bit strange, because the Mike Burrows posts are not that long and offer a limited adjustment range.
If the post is too long, cannot go deep enough into the seat tube, I doubt that the post is the problem and that cutting it is the right solution.
Plus: if you cut it, there's no way you ever can sell it.
