Has it ever occured to people that the habitual blunt "UTFS" responses when presented with threads of this nature discourages discussion of actual cycling related topics? So what if there's a lot of similar threads? That's what we're here for isn't it? If all people do is UTSF and read old threads the forum's going to turn into nothing but an archive of outdated threads.
I spend a bit of time on a guitar website that has 15,000+ members and evey new thread about a topic that might have been discussed a million times before is usually at least given a polite response and few links to relevant threads. Often people pitch in with their recent personal experience of said entry level product and life goes on.
Not having a go at you specifically James but honestly I think this forum's in jokes and comedy gruffness can sometimes detract from potentially useful threads.
I know nothing about about road pedals. Sorry!

I answered the question and then pointed out that there is a search function
the question did not warrant a new thread
what I like about this place is the number of intelligent people who participate
if despite all the guidance on the noobs threads people are still too stupid or lazy to utfs or utfb and they take umbrage when these things are suggested then maybe they'd be happier on a moderated forum such as bike radar

Fair enough. I'm clearly over sensitive today.

Simply using got me some nice Time ATAC pedals, so methinks James isn't really out of line when he says it.

Fine whatever. Let's all just stop discussing bikes and bits then because chances are someone somewhere has mentioned whatever it is you're interested in before.

It seems like the OP might actually be talking about regular road pedals - not clipless road pedals? (just my interpretation)
do you mean a more 'slim line' flat pedal, for use with or without toeclips and straps,
or a clipless pedal for cleat usage? -

It is not a forum for sensitive types though is it. Which I think is what makes it better!
There is an expectation that people know the basics or if they don't they would have done some initial research on it.
Maybe there needs to be a beginners corner or the like where people can ask whatever they want and get answers rather than 'direct' replies (if anyone can be bothered to answer) -

The noon threads explain the nature of this place and advise on utfs
if cunts are too stupid or lazy then they get what they deserve
I find it funny when I get told to utfs and dont get the hump

rbollocks, is there a tax on new threads? FWIW, i can't remember much discussion about road-specific pedals ( and i've been here long enough), and it's a subject I'm quite interested in lately.
granted, there are lots of threads about MTB pedals, which degenerate very quickly into people saying that ATACs are the only pedal in the world, but that's not the same thing.
i agree with Dooks.

I'm siding with dj on this one, but purely for his use of the word 'umbrage'.

except the OP asked for road pedals, not MTB ones.
the only bit I find odd is the "preferably in black" bit.
they are small things which clip onto the cleats under your shoes and get scratched, you cannot see them when you are on the bike, I can;t see the relevance of colour in the decision here.
anyway, shimano SPD-SL or Look Keo are good road pedals.

I was really interested in the Gusset full Throttle weighted pedals, but they still look quite chunky, and i cant find the diameters for them.
.?? road pedals they are not.
I have suddenly decided to agree with Prancing Jimmy

numbrod
there are threads already on this matter
if the OP had done a search under the names of a couple of road pedals (look Keo, speedplay frog, etc) he would have found out more
if he is offended by my answering the question and then giving a little soft advice on searching, then he ought to fuck off to bike radar
and as RPM has now pointed out, the OP did not have a clue what he was talking about to start with
am assuming these pedals are being used on a bike with a freewheel, so is he too retarded to stop pedalling when going round corners or even if used on a fixed wheel can he not adjust his riding to avoid pedal strike?

I am a nerd of the highest degree, but even I am becoming bored of this.

Me too, since the quattros were discontinued, I've been wondering were to turn next.
The new Looks and Time pedals with carbon springs look interesting.....hmmmI've got a pricey Ti pair on the fixed though. I dont really want to have two pairs of road shoes, when I finally get round to putting together a proper road bike. So I'll probably just try and hunt down some NOS quattros.
I get the impression the OP was referring to road flats (whatever that means) though.
Gusset full throttle =

whatever. i saw the thread title, and was interested to read a thread about road pedals. whether that's what it turned out to be or not is neither here nor there.
the constant carrying on with this UTFS attitude is boring and officious. i'm tired of it.

the constant carrying on of noobs not using the search is fucking tedious and i'm tired of it
if i ask a stupid question and someone says UTFS it brings a smile to my face, being made to feel a little humility and less smug is good for me
also if you are looking for road pedals and are used to mtb pedals already, i really would suggest the speedplay zeros, double sided, more adjustable (both in terms of retention and cleat positioning) than any other pedal, low stack height etc
the cleats are expensive but the rubber covers for them are really good and protect them very well
-

I could recommend the Shimano Ultegra 6620 SPD-SL, because they're good quality pedals which are well made like Dura Ace, but very very cheap (ca. £65 in the shop or around £20 new on eBay).
Yes, I would recommend them with my whole heart, if not for the bloody chunky cleats which make you walk like an ostrich :-/ They're good if you don't plan to walk in them.

perhaps it is , but it isn't going to stop, it's the nature of this forum and sheer size it has grown to. So it's pretty futile to get all huffy about it, isn't it.

Ace!
Hey y'all,
I'm looking at replacing my current pedals die to their chunkiness and how bent they're becoming due to taking corners too steeply and hitting curbs too often.
I was really interested in the Gusset full Throttle weighted pedals, but they still look quite chunky, and i cant find the diameters for them.
Im essentially looking for a small lightweight road pedal. Preferably in black.
