Bonjour everyone!
I can't describe how mental I was a few hours ago when my boss gave me a call saying my bike was locked up down the road from the office!
Robofoxx went through a massive process of calming me down, printing pictures of my bike and go there with me!So yeah we've got the bike back... finally!
Thanks to everybody's advice! and help, support lalalalalala... well, yeah I sound completally gay but I dont care what I sound like!
I'm on the french forum as I am french and easier to interact with my friends but I realize how great we are to help eachother,
but yeah today has been a fine example of what the fixed gear community is like in England.Merci beaucoup
See you all soon

would this person be offered bikes/ parts /help / cash if they were male? or would their guilt be more strongly assumed?
just a thought.

he'd have been d-locked ;)

and what's wrong with sounding gay?
NB. gay is not a synonym for stupid.

I find the constant use of the word "fabulous" to be a bit grating.

I was having similar thoughts, but I'm a cynical.

that's what i like about this forum, offering money to a complete stranger who had the misfortune to purchase a stolen bike unwittingly, i hope it stays this way.
Sorry, I have the sarcasm detector off, so I might be misunderstanding you. What I can say is, without a frame number and a receipt I bet the cops would have said: 'no definitive proof, your word against hers, she 'owns' the bike at the mo' by your own admission, take the locks off, and see if you can take it to court.'
The fact she was prepared to return the bike and accept no money is the kind of honest and altruistic behaviour that I think we should all support. Feel free to disagree.

Fair point.
Male gay = bad then.Still, 'gay' is not a synonym for bad.

Hehe probably not, but that's normal and theres nothing wrong with that! in this situation, i've got more sympathy for a girl who's new to this country than a bloke who ain't.

So, on the thief / spray update - Gumtree Girl paid for it already sprayed. It looks like its been sanded and sprayed as its chipping already. There's even blue bits on the saddle from the spray, so doubt very much they took bike apart. Forks have also been sprayed black.
Not just thieves, but thieves with terrible colour co-ordination and lack of detail...deary deary me.

spray job without even taking off the components. damn that's lame. so it ain't the organized crime syndicate we thought it might be.

better hope they are not tea leaves
tea leaves??! You're Dick Van Dyck in Mary Poppins and I claim my £5

If your selling something on gumtree and then give out your address and a time your in then you better hope they are not tea leaves.
You are effectively advertising items that are in your house. I usually meet people around the corner from my home and then go on my instincts to whether to let them in or not.
Yeah that is fine but if I am buying and doing everything on a street corner then I am asking for trouble too. Hence I don't just meet people in laybyes for deals.
2nd hand is good but you have to be aware.

Sorry to single you out on this one as I am sure a few others have made similar comments. There is a market place regardless of whether the secondhand bikes are stolen or not. I like to buy many things second-hand as I believe it to be a sensible thing to do in such a throw away society. Also I am a student and sometimes you can sell things on when you have no use and lose very little money. While people want bikes but don't or can't afford to buy new then there will be a market.
If we want to reduce that market then we could all switch to other modes of transport and close the forum down.
tika never said don't buy secondhand.
