Campagnolo Veloce Vs Mirage

  • Ez, peeps, hope yall is aving a good BankHols!
can anyone help us decide between these 2 calipers plz?
They're budget ones, but will do the job, only problem is, I cant seem to find **any **difference between them!!
    here they are:

    Vs

aside from the VELOCE set being 13grams lighter than the Mirage, they're identical!
Does anyone have any experience with either of these sets or and recommendation's to spare?
    cheers!

  • Yum

  • Either will do nicely (I can't remember which I have on my bike, because I polished the Campag logo off to deter the light of finger). Get whichever is cheaper and spend the difference on Kool Stop salmon pads, I say.

  • Or Swiss-Stop. I have those pads and they're schweet!

  • get skeleton brakes!

  • @ **steff **~ there's not much difference between the prices either..about 0.16p! but good advice about the pads yo. should be something i gotta factor in.

@ teddy, skeletons would be ideal, those ones **pifko **listed are nice...over me current budget tho =[

looks like its gona be the Veloce (if only coz of the weight saving)
    cheers!

  • veloce is a cooler word than mirage in my opinion.

    Hope this helped.

  • The difference is pretty much just the 13g.
I have a chorus front caliper, which when I did my research, looked to be a few grams away from being identical to centuar. I bought it mainly because the guys in the link below sold them separatly (only needed a front).
The campag skeleton brakes are great BTW. You ca pick up a pair of veloce skeleton for £53 here: http://www.sprockets.uk.com/10/Campagnolo-Veloce-Skeleton-Brakes.html?referrer=froogle

  • bump!

I have a Veloce like that in the OP. I'd like to fit Kool Stop or Swiss Stop pads but can only find these sold as inserts.

Do I need to get hold of Veloce or Ultegra blocks before I can run good pads on this calipre? And if I do will they fit.

    Any ideas? Thanks.

  • I had veloce calipers i replaced with the skeletons. I mainly went for them because i think they look great, they also work really nicely, but the original veloces were good already.

id put them on my ulegtra equipped Fuji as well (sacrilege) if it wasn't for the lack of quick release.

i highly rate koolstop pads as well, get some of them and just get the cheaper caliper unless your feeling fancy and want the skeletons.

  • Sorry melon i was bumping the old thread for my own ends.

I have a calipre, I just want to run Kool Stop or Swiss Stop cartridge pads on non-cartridge brakes.

  • You can just get a generic holder for your insert - doesn't have to be DA or whatever.

I think the Tektro ones take the DA-style Koolstop inserts.

  • Ok good stuff.

These should fit, and take Ultegra SwissStop pads which is ace as i have a set knocking around.

    Thanks for the help BMF.

  • Anyone know of anyone that sells just skeleton front calipers? I can't find a source. Don't want to buy a pair because I only need one.

  • I swear they had some in 14

  • Cavendish had them a while ago.

  • None at Cavendish or Condor....waiting to hear from 14..

  • so, kool stop pads come in salmon and grey for respectively wet and normal weather.
i'm only gonna buy one set. will the salmon ones perform better in dry weather than the grey ones in wet weather?
does anybody even know or care?

  • other way round i thought?

  • yes. stupid wording. i wanted to ask which set to get for use in all conditions, but then it stroke me that they will go on my good weather bike - so probably won't see much rain anyway.
i'll get the grey ones. that'll also look better with matte silver rims.

  • Salmon = Fish = Water = Rain...

    :)
