If you're going to spend the cash required for either, how about riding both and picking the one that you like?
This internet shopping revolution is killing 'try before you buy'.

953 all the way.

top of the range 953 or a plain gauge ti?
a plain gauge ti frame cost about £750*
a double butted ti frame cost about £1200*
a triple butted ti frame cost about £1500*
Myself I would go for 953, but it's up to you really, and follow hippy's advice.
*rough estimation.

Put a blind fold on, ride all frame materials around (nice big car park maybe with that blind fold causing issues on the road). Then when you have finished you can forget all about frame materials (as you won't be able to tell the difference anyway, tyre choice is more noticeable) and just pick the one you like the best.

The material specs point towards 953, and it is the more original choice. But as both materials are usually choosen for magical ride quality, it seems an impossible chioce to make over the internet.
This is stunning though. (XCr) milani puro.
BTW: The Planet x Ti frames are made from double butted Ti and cost £799 at the mo.
IMHO Titanium is infact availible cheaper than 953/XCr as it is less exclusive.
Any thoughts or comments on which tubing would provide a better bike for long term ownership and regular use. I was thinking of a Mercian 953, but dont really have a clue on what ti frame, as it seems to get double/triple butted would cost a fortune and I don't fancy spending serotta legend type money..... so maybe I have answered my own question!?
Cheers
