What surprised me was the way the lock has a curved bit that goes into the shackle, as I had never seen anything like that before. Perhaps it makes it more difficult to break open? I don't know.

cheaper design, as you don't need to have two locking pins. This design, however, allows for thieves to cut the lock in only one place and get to the bike. When there is a locking mech on both sides, you can't just cut it in one place because the lock stays largely intact. You usually need a second cut.

for what it's worth, my brother uses this lock, and I find it to be just a bit too small. It can be difficult to fit over the wheel/downtube/pole mess of the pole is biggish, and if you (in a pinch) need to lock two bikes to something, it's really a bitch.

All security ratings hoopla aside, I find my On-Guard Mini to be a more functional lock. It has dual sided locking mechanism which, in theory, is safer, and also it is just a tiny bit bigger. It easily fits over the wheel/downtube/pole in most situations and easily locks two bikes to a pretty solid piece of pole.

still this is certainly a solid lock and easy to carry around.
