  • There is some kind of outer heberdies deal of one week 50 quid ish all you can eat foot passenger bike ticket price.

  • Shit this might actually happen

  • Get to work, ride leader.

  • Bam! Good work fella!

  • Hippy's suggestion sounds great! Would be fun to take a few ferries to get there.

Quite fancy camping too, there seems to be a couple of great sites at Port Charlotte.

This could be a real adventure. Could be fucking chaos too.....

  • I like fairies.. I mean ferries.. there's something about riding your bike onto a boat in front of all the cars and feeling the wind in your hair without actually working for it.

  • You should get a job on the Woolwich Ferry.

  • I like fairies too. Share my tent and you can feel the wind in your hair all.... night..... long.....

  • Bump, some useful info lost.

Hippy had a great route to islay taking in a few islands. Would really like to see that again.

Hippy has no heart, he is a machine.

  • hippy

can you do that route thing again please?

  • this sounds like a fantastic trip, I love to hear more about it.
though I'm a lady it might come as a surprise that I am a self-confessed whisky drinker....not very ladylike I guess.

  • Hello. Newbie Alert. Getting a SS/Fixie soon. Have been to Islay twice (and Jura once), but in car not by bike. Kennacraig is the only place you can ferry from. The climb out of Port Askaig is pretty nasty but the rest of the island is fairly rolling. The island is very welcoming of cyclists as I recall. Ardbeg make/sell cycling tops and organise an island ride finishing at the distillery every year. I'm sure there's stuff on their website Bruichladdich also sell cycling tops so at least show an interest.

Very welcoming place, whisky heaven of course - Lagavulin Distillers Edition for me please. Bowmore is the biggest town, is central in terms of getting to all the distilleries and has the most amenities. I always stayed at a little B&B in Bridgend a bit further on. I can imagine the roads being a bit hairy - they are not the most well maintained, and the drink driving laws on Islay seem to be a little more lax, but a group would help matters.

Just thought I'd add a bit of info. I've never ridden a SS/Fixie yet, so I'm not about to sign up. But maybe, who knows.

  • Nice first post.
    Welcome.

  • a little taster of things to come

Brian has sent me down a parcel of laphroaig corks, perfect as bar end caps

if anyone wants a couple PM me and we can arrange collection

  • Splendid.
I am so looking forward to this. It sounds better and better.
I have some Lagavulin 16 year old at home. It is fantastic stuff.
