much as it's despicable, these things do and will happen. until we - as a society - can provide decent alternatives for young people (other than the dole queue), increasing inequalities will lead to such occurrences. i personally know of at least one person to whom this has happened in recent months (and it wasn't on kingsland road) as well as several others who it has happened to over the years. and it's not just about nice bikes: often, the muggers are just out to beat-the-shit-out-of-you for something to do, rather than with any motive of making money off the bike.

^^partly right. These people do it because they've not suffered a proper tolchocking from either their victims or proper moral authorities in their short lives. They do not and are not forced to suffer the consequences of their actions.

I blame the parents, Thatcher and Livingstone
On a serious note though, CUNTS

I would say D-Lock them, but the problem is the perp then becomes the 'victim'...

Yeah, I saw the police and ambulances cycling past about 1:00 am last night. I presume it was this incident. How is the person who was knocked over and having a fit?
Oh, and kudos for getting involved. How did the police respond to your vigilantism? (if you told them about it that is)

I think eggpie and I saw the aftermath of this incident riding home from Muddy Hell last night. We guessed correctly that there had been an assault but not that it had been for a bike! Distressing. Police were already on the scene and a bit later we saw an ambulance and an emergency doctor going south through Dalston Junction. Whoever it was, hope he'll be OK!

Really glad the police were on scene so quickly; I'm actually surprised by that.
Hope the victim is okay and recovers swiftly. -

horrible horrible to hear stuff like this, I'm heading up kingsland road to dalston in a few hours...argg

Dude, that's fucked up. Was this at silly-o'clock in the morning/night, or are the yoot getting more daring with their raids? What did the police say/do? Anything?

i'm not wanting to get in argument, but it's not society, it's human nature,
utopia will never happen. -

gang of teenagers on kingsland road last night one ran to grab me whilst i was riding but he saw how shit my pub bike was and stopped the rest of the gang focused on a guy behind me pushed him off and he hit his head on the curb, they were trying to get his bike whilst he was shaking and having a fit on the road. i ran back and so did a load of peds to help. the gang gave up and started to run off in to an estate i chased and grabbed one but they all ran back when he shouted so i had to let him go. police turned up just as i did that duh!
kinda shook me up the whole thing was about 40 seconds and luckily the guy on the floor seemed to come around ok whilst the police were there.what time was it? i was cycling along ritchmond road at about 10 and saw about 6 "youts" getting huckled into the back of a meat waggon. could have been related?

That kind of apologist blame-everyone-but-the-criminal attitude legitimises these crimes and breeds more of the scum who commit them.
Society already provides housing, money, free education, universities and all manner of jobs for these feral little shits. It's not society's fault that they choose not to take advantage of that and instead embark on a life of crime and violence.
Want something else for them to do? I suppose we could conscript them into the army and send them to be blown up in Afghanistan? Was that what you meant?
