Read hub just went FUBAR

Rear not read
Happily cycling along Regent's Canal when all of a sudden I hear a "CLANG" noise.

Investigated and found that the rear wheel wobbles. It seems that something broke off from the hub.

Any ideas? I would investigate more but I just had to treck like 6 miles or more with no sleep what so ever. So, I'm going to go hibernate.

Are your hub bearings loose ball or cartridge type?
Has the race collapsed?
How old are they?
Is it the axle or hub flange that has snapped/cracked?

I bet a spacer or locknut crumbled.

They are very old, came from an old bike, no idea how old.

I think that's what may of happened when I stopped and looked.
It's an old hub with a freewheel on it.

My original back wheel FUBAR'd quite a while ago. But I salvaged the Shimano 7-Speed 11-32 teeth Cassette & lockring, but I never bothered about getting a new wheel & cassette to save money.

I bet a spacer or locknut crumbled.

I've a question though, will this cassette will only fit a freehub right?
You have to excuse me for any sillyness I may say, my knowledge isn't too great with bicycles :P

And also, Freehub bodies just fit on the a normal hub right?

Just found a Shimano WheelHub & Freehub, quick released for £10.

Win.

Sorry, I mean a freewheel on a threaded hub.

Oh yeah, forgot to say.
This is what happened.

Anyway, rebuilt the wheel with a new Shimano Hub. Works a treat. Now back to 44/11. Fantastic. =)
