Just like HDR photos, there's the bloody good and there is just shit examples.
The 2nd one is nice, B&W works well.

Now, there's a surprise that your version of tilt shifting involves cars.

Are we talking about Hartblei lenses, or is someone being posh, and showing off their
Rollei SL66 with Scheimpflug technique plus Rollei tilt-shift lens?Or are we referring to the much more common Canon or Nikon models?

At least I'm not anal about bullshit........
Ohhhhhh look at my lovely bike that I built all by myself....with the best components from Pauls, and all sorts......ohhhh look at me!
Please. If this Lfgss isn't a geek hangout, Lord knows what is.
That said, my ultimate camera is a SL66. Never owned one, but hope and wish to someday.
Geek, and proud my brother. ;)

They are lovely. Only come into contact with one once. We did a report on an architectural firm not so long ago and they were using them for models and scale images of buildings. Regardless of image quality it's just a very pretty camera. I offered to swap it for my Z7...

i find one of these works well
but now i prefer to use this instead
but usually to get things in focus not out of focus.:-)

Seen some stunning architectural photography shot with tilt shift lenses, never had the need for one myself though.

Did you say "regardless of image quality"???? The SL66 is nearly identical to Hassy in terms of lens/optical qualities. Nought wrong with Hassy optics I think.
Mr.Smyth, I've seen 4x5's in use, and even though the image quality/size is immense, I've just got a thing for MF, which means that I would be happier with something hand-holdable than something that needs a Studex everytime.

CJ, the link I posted to Hartblei is worth a look. They make tilt-shift lenses that fit many different cameres......if you ever wanted something that bit different.

Ha, you've misinterpreted my "regardless" comment. Obviously it's shit-hot [technical term]. I meant, "image quality aside" no that still doesn't sound right. But there was a point there about how the actual tangible parts to the body of the camera were as beautiful as the images it produces. Or something.

If we're talking ultimate cameras for me I don't think I could pin it down to one, so many cameras are awesome at different things, my ultimate dream team of cameras would be as follows:
Compact camera:
Canon G11 (until the soon to arrive very high quality compact from Nikon comes out!)35mm Digital SLR's:
Nikon D3s
Nikon D3x35mm Film SLR:
Nikon F6 (with optional grip..I prefer the ergonomics of larger bodies)Medium Format Digital:
Leica S2 system with the relevant lenses -

Haha, i'm more interested in taking pictures rather than obsessing over how pretty a camera is, or making something more difficult than it needs to be ;)
For me its all about function, i've always fancied a decent film SLR, because I can use my digital body to meter, then whack the lens straight onto the film body, and get a perfect exposure after checking it against the histogram on my digital body :)
Contemplating this for a shoot coming up in the near future, thinking of hiring out a D3x and an F6 at the same time. -

Ash, those Hartlieb lenses look interesting, but they seem strangely cheap for what they are, something that makes me doubt their build quality a little bit?
-
• #19
CJ, they're excellent. Trust me on that. I've not owned one, no.....but I think I'm known for researching things before making a pronoucement. And this is such a case
I've known about Hartblei for other reasons, and for a very long time (more than a decade). They have satisfied customers all over the world. Costs are kept low because the manufacturing is in the eastern bloc. But they're worth the money, and then some.
Also, very good customer service.

can you use tilt shift lenses to create this effect in reverse?
as in make a minitature model look like a dramatic landscape? Would it suffice to have a really tiny aperture to make an extended DOF?
Im going off to try it...
... is quite fun. Have a go here, show us your results..
