  • !!!NOW WITH PRIZE!!!

Through my real-world connections in the world of antiquities, This remarkable, rare and valuable gift is being offered as a prize for one lucky participant in today's Lo-Pro events!

The donor is a household name who not only is a self-confessed bike-snob and acquisitor of fine cycle-related objets, but who is also an occasional visitor to this forum, albeit under an alias.
The donor has asked me to let it be known that having chanced upon this thread they were 'tickled' at the 'bufoonic proposition' of riding 'outdated racing-cycles' at unsuitably low speeds in an urban environment, whilst 'drawing the attention of an indiffernet public' through 'outlandish costume'. The prize salutes this comeidic intent. and what a prize!

Provenance: circa very early XIV century Meissen-ware from the Humboldt Porzellan Manufactuary. Attributed to the Russian-born ceramic artist Theodore Iwan, signed T A Iwa(N)(?) widely known for depictions of bucolic characters such as milk-maids and swains.

Subject: circus performer captured in characteristic stance of comedic 'backwards riding' - a form of entertainment that would have been known to those at the court of Prince Louis Ferdinand of Prussia, but also seen throughout Upper Silesia and particularly associated with the famous Buffo Fillipo Piagama, and others of his troupe.

If this were to go to auction it would likely to draw serious interest from international collectors and command a significant price! It's value derives not only from the uncanny skill of the artist in capturing a charmingly life-like fluidity of motion, but also in it's uniquely early representation of the comic prop 'velo de profil en-bas'. Indeed this ceramic form outlives all of the known Draisine (Laufmaschine) of which the commercially unsuccessful v.de.p.en-bas was an immediate precursor.

Mr Pajamas- it falls to you to determine the winning criteria for this fantastic trophy. - which I know will be genuinely appreciated by all who see it.

Ill bring it to BRIGHT TIMES, at the BLACK HEART CAMDEN at 7.30ish. (Please text if needed).
