Thread them onto a spare spoke (2 twists max, not very much) and get them in that way. Get the proper spoke in and start tightening. Should unthread the tool-spoke. Or just push it in, unthread the tool-spoke, and use a screwdriver to thread it on.

use another spoke with nipple attached backwards, poke it through and twist on to the spoke in the wheel.

It's been a while since I last built a wheel - I was taught that.

A cotton bud cut diagonally to a point works well enough and you dont have to unwind it.

Using a spare spoke with the nipple on backwards does the job but takes ages. If you're planning on doing any more Deep-V wheels then I would recommend getting yourself a spoke nipple guide or nipple clamp. You'll find it tricky at the two holes either side of the joining point but otherwise should be fine.

I just use an small length of picture hanging wire, thread the nipple on, and then the wire through the rim, then drop the nipple into place, and use a screwdriver to thread the nipple onto the laced spoke. job done.

i use more than one spoke for that, normaly 8 for a 32H wheel. feels faster.
I'm building a pair of Velocity Deep V's. Any tips on getting the nipples in without them falling into the cavity. It's a bloody pain in the butt.
Thanks
