Just to give some closure to my bump, my lockring got suck (prob bc I didnt greese the threads)... gutted... so I UTFS, tried everything and got no where.
Went for a ride to cool off. Took a detour via BLB. The mech in BLB said "there are some spanners outside take the wheel off and I'll have a look". He got out the shimano chain whip, sorted it out + regrease... and didn't charge me!
All in all really happy, yet another positive BLB experience... without wanting to jinx myself I've almost always had really positve experiences there.
Also I'm going to get the shim chain whip/lock ring combo when I've got some cash. FYI Condor have a chain whip thats almost identical but without the lockring bit for less than £20.
