My girlfriend rides a giant road bike... as in a road bike made by giant. She is certainly lovely, and would ride a surly if she had the opportunity, I'm sure! Not sure who you're thinking of though..
We have met briefly a couple of times at souths but we haven't had an extended converstation... story of my life really.
