It took me about 3 times to try freewheel before I took to it.
1st time I switched from fixed no brake and just forgot to use the brake so was running into people constantly.
2nd time was with front brake only and really didn't like it as I just don't like only using a front brake at all.
3rd time was after I had been riding fixed-rear brake for a while and borrowed a mtb at brick lane one day and really loved the ease of the game. So much less work! And it seemed to make the game much more clear as you have less to think about with your pedals and your bike is more stable because you're not constantly pedaling.
After that I switched back and forth for a bit until I was more comfortable on the freewheel and I'm a full on convert now.
