I had one of those Smart 1/2 Watts delivered to work today and used it on the ride home. It is gives a very sharp/bright flash i think would travel a long, long way. The battery life is supposed to be pretty good too.
Parker International have them for £8.

Not super cheap, but good non-the-less - CLICKY. I've got one of the original halogen light units.
I swapped the bulb out for a 35watt one (from ryness) and bought a flightpower 3cell 11.1v lithium polymer pack off 'the bay' - which i charge with one of THESE.
Connection between the light and battery pack is with the supplied power cable - which i've added a DEENSconnector to.I keep the pack (which weighs nowt and lasts for yonks) and connection in a neoprene phone sleeve which i attach to the stem with a velcro strap.
If you're riding in heavy rain the pack really needs to be in a couple of sandwich bags to keep the rain out - lithium and water - now that'll give you a nice bright light…

I had my Dinotte on flash mode for some reason last night. Some football match so fuckers everywhere. As I rode past some guy with his window down, he said "Urgh I can't bloody see anything now" since I'd caught his mirror with the light. Blinding drivers ftw

Yeah, I've never had anyone not notice me with my Dinottes. However, a small part of me wishes I hadn't dropped so much on them and had gone for some cheaper plastic lights. Do you put your battery packs in plastic bags when it's raining, Hippy?

Wish people would'nt do this^.
Front lights in flash mode set off my acidhouse flash backs, and controlling a bike while doing the 'big fish - little fish - cardboard box' dance is tricky. -

I think the flashing settings (as long as they're not strobey) are good in urban settings as they differentiate you from motorised vehicles.
It's weird people going on about how 'awesomely bright' certain rear lights are, when, if you're following someone with one in the pitch black countryside, they're too fucking bright, and compromise your night vision [/TNRC].

My Cherry bomb rear light is only half a watt and kicks out an impressive amount of light, I imagine this will be even better, saw a blackburn mars 4.0 last night, thats a cool bit of kit, amber lights out the side as well!

Something about Derek Griffiths and having your frying pan stolen?
No, sorry - I find your swarthy accent impenetrable.

Nope. My spares just live in my bag and the light itself is: light, o-ring, battery pack, battery bag, velcro strap. Never had any issues with water. For cheaper options those Fenix and Rom-whatsit torches look great but they weren't so common back when I got my Dinotte and it's too sexy to swap for a torch anyway.

Rave nation!

Dinotte = awesome.
Front is very good, the rear mind blowingly retina burning. BMMF should be thankful I don't use that on TNRC rides.

The Dinotte flash is very odd. It's proper bangin' strobe raver whistle blow put your hands up stay flashy... and then it's off.. for too long in my opinion and then RAVERS! again..

Yup, I posted about them on page 3. Pretty good. More visible than an LED light in situations where its not really dark but all the cars have their lights on anyway. Have yet to use one in the proper dark but I can't see how it wont be good.
I have since used the Fibre Flare in the "proper dark" and it holds it's ground very well. Gives out a lot of light and the large surface area makes it very visible.
Also got used in the rain yesterday (about half an hour of rain and road spray) and the water hasn't affected it. -

Cheers Hippy. Haven't used mine in the pouring rain yet.
And yes. Definitely a reet sexy design.Anyone know if you can get a 303 & 909 mounted to your handlebars for proper acidhouse cycling? ;)

Stopped a guy on a Pearson Touche tonight at Elephant, just to talk to him about his f*cking excellent BLT rear light.
Awesome light. Unbelievably bright.Recently I also was talking to another guy about his super-bright Fenix.
Really, there are quite a few outstanding rear lights, with the near-blinding Smart 1/2watt, being the brightest for its cost.
I've got one of the BLT rear lights and they are awesome, only annoyance is the shit bracket which mounts the light to the side of the seatpost, meaning I keep brushing my leg on it, so I dispensed with that quickly and used the carabiner to clip it to my bag, it swings around a bit - which is maybe a good thing, but it provides a constant bright flashing light on my rear wheel and the road behind me.
I've also just bought a Fibre Flare for my rear seat stay and it is equally excellent.

I attached silver baking foil (aluminum foil) to the strap of my bag, and a light just above it.
The foil catches light from car beams, and also provides a much larger "bank" of light, coming from my secondary red binking rear light. So my 3-light set up is, 1 front, 1 rear (on seatpost), and 1 on my right shoulder (pointing backwards towards traffic).
I've seen the reflection of the large area of red flashing at my shoulder, when passing by shop windows. Pretty good.

Foil is heavily wrapped in see-through cellotape, therefore has not needed to be changed. Honestly, I only recently thought of it. It can't be affected by rain or weather, and because its totally wrapped in cellotape, its very unlikely to get damaged.
If you look carefully, you'll see lines going across the foil.....thats the cellotape.
EDIT: I have noticed, that cars and trucks actually give me MUCH more room as they pass.
