Yes, sprayed my black risers black with a satin finish. Looked exactly the same as they did originally but without the 'raceface' logos all over them.

did you cover the grooved bits for the stem to grip on?

I did paint a couple with montana spray and all I did was mask where the grips stay to avoid them getting glued. no problems and really easy to retouch when needed. hi don't know how it'd work will quill stems though...I'm guessing it'd rub a little! if you get the stem opened with a screw driver it might help

from my experience, the grips will get stuck/glued when used over spray painted bars. depends on the spray I guess...

My bars don't have grooved bits, which sort of proves you don't need them so could spray over them, maybe?

^grooved bits? the not-so-soft part which sits inside the stem? I would not paint it.
