SMIDSY rejected as an excuse by court

  • Not London, sorry, but an encouraging precedent:

    It beggars belief that "I didn't see you!" is offered, and often accepted, as an excuse.

  • Hooray! Shame his licence wasn't revoked for a period though*. Especially as he's a copper. That'd perhaps get drivers (and officers of the law in particular) thinking about what constitutes due care & attention a little more.

    • I say this as I'd hope some people would then be 'encouraged' to try cycling instead
  • I'm on the pessimistic side, if a court can reduce compensation to a cyclist for not wearing a helmet. I hope this will make any difference, but the pessimist in me doubts it will.

  • I think they tried that, but it got thrown out on appeal, didn't it?
